  1. Lmfao! I love where this thread went lol I'm goin out to his place this weekend and I'll check the alignment of the sprockets, it is a swing arm set up and hes put alot of money into this machine. Just about everything on it is new, we jus ride really hard. I'll pass the info on about breakin in the chain n if he doesn't listen well pi@s on him, I tried to help lol He's upgrading in a year anyways, tired of bein the slowest n weakest machine hehe U guys crack me up lol
  2. R.K something, the sprockets are new and no he haven't checked alignment yet. I'll look up how, as far as breaking them in, no. He throws it on n balls out throught the mud, so it sounds like he needs to break em in huh.... lol i never did on my old machine either but nothin ever broke
  3. My friend recently rebuilt this 300 2 stroke, .06 over bore, full aftermarket exaust, clutch kit and jetting. He's snappin chains ike its goin outta style, several of us have checked chain tension but they keep snapping. First ever i seen in 2 pieces lol Does anyone have an idea on why this keep happening? Just about every other ride it snaps, and he runs 520 o-ring chain
  4. The 98 should have to rods similar to tie rods going from shifter to the tranny, u figure out which one runs reverse and low and the other runs high gears. Loosen the locking nuts on both ends of the one that controls low and reverse adjust until gear stays locked. Had to this on my old 96, i dont have pics sorry
  5. The filter will be on the right side of the bike(when you are sitting on it) down at the bottom of the case, there will be 3 bolts you will have to take out then pop the cover off to access it. Note there are two sets of 3 bolts on that same side but as I said it will be the bottom three. Also on that side, if you have cleaned it good enough to see, you will see the sight glass that allows you to check the oil level and right below that there should be some numbers with ML after it this will tell you how many quarts of oil you need to use, Just remember that each quart is 941.1764905 so you will just divide the number on the case by that number to figure out how many to use. By my reading u can use 10w40 for the oil, hope this helps
  6. I did not but here is the link i found with pretty detailed instructions on removal ATV Time :: View topic - Water Pump Mechanical Seal how to replace - 2001 Sportsman the only thing he left out was the plastic seal over the water pump seal will not allow it to seat, thats where the machined tubing came in very handy
  7. I did replace the mechanical seal and oil seal, runs like a champ now! Anyone tries to do this w\o a manual it is very simple to pull everything with a 2.5" drywall screw and reset with a socket for the oil seal. The mechanical i machined a piece of 2" od 1 3/8 id tube down to 1.65 to set the seal and it worked 1st shot, using a socket i busted the ceramic piece twice and had to get a new seal lol (learning expierience) Thanks everyone for the help!!
  8. Alright, heres the update. I got the new oil seal in and the new water pump mechanical seal in as well as new gasket. Also added my 25" Executioners, high flo air filter and stage 1 power kit with power programmer for my efi. Maiden voyage this Sat at my buddys atv mud fest. No leaks at all and seems to run flawlessly, we'll see how she does under mud an water!
  9. I have a new mechanical seal ordered for this machine, I see in a lot of other threads that while I'm replacing this to replace the oil seal right behind it. Looking on bike bandit for specs I see no oil seal, just a ball bearing? Is there an oil seal there and where may I find one to order or is it the ball bearing I need to replace?
  10. Well i canceled the clymers, is the updated pump and gasket oem or aftermarket? Tires came in and gettin them mounted this weekend winch is on, lookin at a stage 1 kit for it but not sure if it will improve way i want it to yet or not....workin on it! Any ideas r welcome and thank you guys for the info, it is very appreciated!
  11. Sweet! Thank you for the info, u wouldn't happen to know who puts out the aftermarket pump n seal would u? I won't run the machine till i get it fixed n its killin me =/
  12. I haven't changed it before, i'v only had the machine for 2 weeks n had to keep filling the reservoir when i had it out. It jus seems to disappear, that's wen i noticed it coming out of the weep hole on the case. Eveything else seems to be in good order but the coolant issue so i'm hoping a new pump, cover, impeller and seal will fix my issue with new coolant. Since i have to tear it down anyways...
  13. Got the machine out today for her maiden voyage at the atv park, runs like a champ but my coolant res goes empty very quickly while riding. No coolant found in my oil but is seeping from the weep hole, not sure if i need a new pump n gasket or if theres air in the system. Never popped a hot light at me either, very odd. Clymers manual is ordered, hopefully fixed soon.....
  14. Have to go with 25" tires, 26s I want dont come in 8" wide and i dont wanna run spacers in the front, ordered Kenda Executioners to replace the stocks instead
  15. Thats great news! I ordered 26" Sti mud trax to see how they work out, they seem to have very good reviews and are cheaper than the itp mudlites. 4k promark winch shipped out today so the machine should be ready soon, pics to come after all mounting done! Ajm thanks for adjusting the thread title, still no good at this forum thing....
  16. I just purchased an 04 polaris sportsman 700 efi 4x4, runs stock 25s and i would like to put 26s on for the additional tread depth. For just the 1" larger tire would i have to change anything with the machine to run the larger tire?
  17. Finally shes back up n running. Intake valves were to tight, t.p.s was way off, drive belts shot an my pilot jet was screwed up to name a few things. Back too running like a champ tho n i already barried her for her maiden voyage!!!
  18. Sounds good, i jus ordered the service manual for my machine so we'll see if it can help my situation any. Thanks for all the advice it has been helpful in direction on wat to do.
  19. Well i got her put back together. Fired up for about 15 seconds n died, couldnt get her to restart. Very little fuel getting to bowl n now no spark =/ Took it over to my buddys shop this afternoon to have it gone thru.
  20. I'll definitely look into a few of those, iv ridden the 650 can-am my buddy has an its a great machine accept the drive belt gets wet. I did jus buy a bmx 110 lil quad for my niece and a honda ttr 110 pit bike to play with this weekend, running outta room for toys. One question tho with the 2 stroke, how do u go about makin it put out more power, can u still bore and oversize the piston? Thanks for tall the input too, greatly appreciated!!
  21. Sounds great, ill look around and see wat i can find. I'v heard the king quad tho rolls pretty easy n i have a tendancy not to use brakes or slow down for that matter. My motto is simple "ride it like u stole it" prolly why i found 3 cracks in my frame and busted the front motor mount. Thanks for the tips though, ill definitely look into the other machines!
  22. Utility for sure. My 425 is fun but lacks the umph im looking for, so i figured ill try the 500 sportsman head, air box and carb bored 1 mil n see how that goes but i still want another bigger machine.
