2003 Yamaha Warrior 350 - Valve Issues

Recommended Posts

It has a fresh set of rings and jug bored to match piston. One mechanic suggested loosening the valve adjustment to close intake valve longer??? It doesn't burn any oil and the plug burns with great carbon build up. So I don't think it could be rings, but I am open to any suggestions. You got anything else? Thanks!

Hmmm??? I don't see how that can cause back pressure out of the carburetor, but I will check that out, Thanks. I am leaning toward a bent valve or tired valve springs becuase the cylinder just isnt taking all the fuel/air that the carb is throwing at it and it should cuz the exhaust chamber has a major port and polish and the thing tachs up like crazy?! This is frustrating!!!! :o

I ported it and it is real clean and smooth. I built racing motors for Yamaha Marine. (Two Strokes No Valves) I don't see how the crank case breather could be clogged but I will check it. My buddy is a Mecanical Engineer and he is saying "Valve adjustment or bent valve or valve spring"

I thought I rounded out the cam but he says it wouldn't even run. It is some kind of Valve timing issue cuz the fuel that the carb is throwing just aint goin into the chamber and is spittin fuel vapor out of the air intake side of the carb. So instead of having all suction, it is spitting back.

I would have to agree with you! I don't think it's the porting cuz it tachs up way faaster than used to just like a could porting will do and it was doing it before the port and polish even with the fuel vapor backlash deal. I am goin to adjust the valves again first, if that don't work I will pull the head and go through it. Thanx alot! ;)

You guys are real funny. Fact is that I will bet that you can't name another single ATV that has been reproduced for over 20 years without any changes. They kept makin them cuz they work!

The Valve leaked cuz the beast vibrated a carburetor to bits and a chunk of metal got sucked into the intake boogerin up the valve. Considering what it went through the damage was rather minor.

That old warrior beefed up the way she is spanks them 400 ex's like they are Tonka toys and then takes me Huntin all night and drags 350lbs hogs back from the woods like pullin one of them raptors around! Very easily! Hahahaha

glad you got it all figured out sebringwarrior !!

i've only owned yamahas for the last 4 years and i can't say anything bad about them at all. my first atv's were honda and i have no problems with ever owning another one either. i am really not prejudiced against any atv brand, they're all fun !!

and speaking of fun, my post a little while ago was just the continuing funny rivalry mario and i have going.

i have a slight advantage sometimes because i am on a pc and mario is on his phone. all good !!

:cheers2c: mario !!

No worries. It's all in good fun. I have had all types of ATV's and the Warrior has been the most all around reliable, versatile, comfortable, fast and easy to fix ATV that I have ever had. I had one back in 89 when it was the fastest ATV money could buy and all these years later I have another one and love it. It's cheap and easy to fix and because of thier production run, parts are everywhere!

I live on a famous mudhole in Florida "Northern" Sebring, FL and we run ATV's all the time. The Warrior really does eat those new 400ex's up, and nothing short of a 450r or a Predator 525 can hang with it in the scrub trails. And no mater how I beat on it, it has never left me stuck out in the woods!

That's what I call a great ATV. Go Team Yamaha!

They did not produce the Warrior in 2005 and 2006. And you said "I bet you can't name a single ATV that has been produced for 20 years without any changes" ANY!!! They changed the CDI, stator, lights, rear shock, and a-arms.

most quads get ugrades every year. the warrior and banshee hardly got any because they didnt need need to. even now the raptor 350 frame is still the same as the warrior from 15 years ago. and they still have banshees in production for other countries and they are still the same as they were 10 years ago.

I've had this for probably 15 years. It ran great till 4-5 years ago, mainly riding the grandkids around our fields, till it wouldn't start. It sat for a couple of years till I bought a new battery, but couldn't get it to even hit, so rebuilt the carb, put on a new fuel pump, but no go, so it's sat. Several days ago, charged battery, cranked over and it started??? OK, idles good, but won't rev up, so emptied gas tank, flushed out and filled w/good 93 octane, pulled pump line from carb and have good full line of fuel cranking over. New spark plug, good spark, old one black BAD! Oil change, adjusted valves, no difference. Pulled carb and took apart and cleaned, didn't find any clogs or crusted up inside. Now I've had the carb back off probably 6 times checking, double checking anything I can think of. No gas blowing back in air box. It idles good, can increase throttle up some then starts popping and dropping rpms off and if I don't let off the throttle, it'll die. I've read for 3 days now MECHs and RANDY walking several thru tracing the same problem, tried MOST of the direction given. ???

      1992 Suzuki kingquad 300 with 17000 kms.
New intake boot same old problem. Starts and Idles perfect, wont take any % of throttle. Same tune i had as when it got flooded with water.
      All i did since then:
Cleaned the top and bottom of the carb and jets.
      Swapped different plastics onto it.
      Rebuilt the starter.
      Added another ground. (Since removed)
Extended the positive terminal so it can fit without strain.
      Added battery.
Swapped carb diaphragm off of another. (No holes)
Did a temporary oil cooler delete.
      Flushed and replaced the oil.
Just added a brand new intake boot & gasket....

Had it running perfectly just days ago minutes after i siliconed the intake gasket. It has since melted away from gas i assume. Didn't touch it for 4 days went to go for a ride and bogged and bogged. Replaced the gasket and intake boot to no avail, so i really don't know what's going on now.
The spark plug is dry carbony but it's the same tune as before..
Has good fuel flow in the line, fuel is new.
I was testing spark yesterday and it was bright orange. And it eventually went back to its white, Not blue by any means.

Before i replaced the intake boot it would take tension on the throttle and you would get 2000 rpm max before it bogged..
Since i replaced it, it won't take any at all. Spraying flammable liquids into the carburetor had the same bog result. I tried spraying said flammable liquids around the head boot seal and didn't notice any difference. I didn't try for too long.

boot to head is tightened as much as i could with a screwdriver + less than a quarter turn with a ratchet.
Previous silicone very possibly could have fell into the combustion chamber and did something there??...

No difference with any choke, with or without airbox boot, pressurizing the fuel tank, battery disconnected.. there was a point where i left choke on and had the air filter that came with it on and it flooded the whole airbox with fuel, That was when i was building compression because i lost all of it during the flushing process. (It's back now)
Im lost! This thing was perfect until i got water in the oil and flushed everything and what not. Its only been less than a week since then so theres no chance the fuel went bad.
Snapchat-1004857443.mp4  Ps the switch is a neutral safety switch bybass. It really hates itself with the switch off. It makes a knocking noise and idles with a surge. Is perfect with a battery connected off and on but without a battery it has to be on..

Hey Guys, we are looking for some good windshields and back windows for some customers and we came across Flex a fab as a manufacturer, does anyone know about their products?
