Hey @go2glamis welcome to Quadcrazy. I would check your stator coil.   It could be over charging the system. Or not charging at all.   You need to see what voltage you have coming from the stator as well as do an ohms test on it.   The engine should run with the battery disconnected, the lights and accessories would not work properly and may shut the engine down if you were to turn them on due to a heavy draw but the engine should run with the battery disconnected.

Here a few pages from the manual. It’s not the same year but should be close enough if not the same.

I would also start the bike up and put a tester on the battery and see how much voltage your getting at the battery.   As your checking rev the engine a little and see if it changes. Are you handy with an electrical tester ?

OK new stator is in i can disconnect battery now and the engine still runs so definitely the stator was bad. now i was hoping that would solve my other problems to but didn't.  i don't ride at night much but my headlights don't work and i can only start the bike with the clutch pulled in (wasn't this way new) the tail and brake light work. is there a fuse or relay for these? i changed the neutral sensor before but didn't help

i can rebuild or troubleshoot almost any engine but am horrible at electrical

As far as the starting the bike with the clutch pulled in thats normal. Most likely solved that with the neutral sensor.  You may have never knew it but that’s how it works.   As far as head lights that can be traced back to the power source.  Either a bad connection or fuse.  Pull the connections at the lights and test for voltage. There should be three wires on your headlight.  One is a ground two others are high and low beam.  Start there and check for power with the head light switch on obviously.

Sorry I suck at these forums so if you see this submitted under update status, my bad. Anyhow this is a new shock for a 96 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 it fits my 96 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 perfectly. Little narrower are the bottom than the original but everything else is perfect. I extended it to almost a half in from full extension because I’m pushing 350 pounds.  It rides and hold me well. So if any of y'allRace driven shock. have been looking for one and didn’t want to do the research here it is.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Just thought I'd start a new thread for newbies to the site!
If you're new here, tell us who you are, where you're from and what you ride!!!
Lets get to know each other a little better shall we?
I'm not new to the site, obviously, but...
I'm Kristin from Denver!!! I ride a 2008 Yamaha Rhino. She's my muddy baby!!!!!! Several aftermarket parts on her. She's good to me! We try and ride every weekend. This weekend we're off to MOAB! :woot:

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.
