1986 Honda TRX 250 - No Power

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

Just got an 86 TRX 250, not running for past 5 years.

Currently with battery hooked up there no power. I checked the fuses. Will go meter the off/run/off switch and ignition switch tonight.

I'm, looking for a decent wiring diagram or a copy of the service manual or ohm specs for coils/stators. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to Quadcrazy.  86 !!!! Nice bike.  I think that year had the metal gas tank ?

The stator would not prevent you from cranking the engine so I’m thinking it’s a really or wiring issue.  Don’t know if we have that year in the downloads section but I will take a look for you.  Meantime any of our members here are very well versed and will help you along the way.  You can have access to the download section after participating in at least 10 posts in the forums or a paid membership.    The 10 posts are not very difficult because you are going to find the stuff here we get into very interesting. So I will take a look for your diagram and see what’s available.

What condition are the plastics in? How’s the bike overall?

Frank,

Yes metal gas tank.

Turns out it was the ignition switch. All crusted over inside (like Ajmboy's shorts, JK thanks for the link).

I pulled apart and cleaned, carb, air box, starter. Clean out the gas tank. Replaced front brake lever/master cylinder assy, rear brake shoes. New battery.

Looks like a bag of as* (plastics fk'd) but starts right up and purrs like a kitten.

Wow great pics brother. Wtf is that tan sh** ? Looks like a piece of fish...  The tank looks nasty.  Glad it runs great, very nice work. The only thing I’m going to say about @Ajmboy is the only thing he has crusted is his reputation in this forum. You can’t have pie without crust! And this forum is the pie and he is the crust! And @Admin I love you too!

Ride safe.

Starting this build thread to keep up with everything on my build and hope to motivate someone!

I picked up this 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 250 2 weeks ago. A guy that I hunt with parked it at the hunt club for a year or so before I asked him if he wanted to sell. He said " fill my feeder and throw some batteries in my cameras, and you can have it". Sounds like a deal to me!
I have attached some pictures of how it sat under a tarp in the woods and when I got it home and cleaned up a little.

Hello, im looking for some input on this situation i have. My 94 Mojave has no spark, and i have no idea what it is. Ive replaced/tested the magneto, the pickup coil, cdi, the ignition coil. Even the key and Killswitch. I haven't tested the harness its self, but i have tried another harness and still nothing. The only thing i can think of is the fly wheel itself. I have found a lot of metal shavings in the fly wheel and have cleaned it the best I could. But nothing happened afterwards. I am truly stumped here and hoping some of yous could shed some knowledge/ideas that could help get this thing to fire.

My 2014 750 king quad stalls sometimes when I touch or turn the handlebars, the problem has gotten worse,my machine has 475 miles and is only trail ridden,I have a new factory battery and i have 14.2 volts when the quad is running and 13.3 on the battery when not running, also using a multimeter there is no change in volts when turning the bars until it does stall,If I pull the 40 amp power steering fuse it will not stall.......I've been told its the ECU,Hate to buy one if thats not the problem, but its kinda leaning towards that,,,,,need some opinions.

My uncle bought a Baja 250, 2006. Knew there was no spark since the get go. He don't know anything about quads so is getting me to help him try to get it running...

battery is bad so I connected battery charger to it to crank it over , cranks over well , but no spark ....
Lights and everything work fine , but with each crank over using the e start switch , the display reads 999 888 777 666 ... Right down to 000 and repeats itself .

He managed to get a parts bike , I changed over the CDI and the coil and the stator from the parts bike and there was another black box by the voltage regulator I changed over ... I used my multimeter to confirm as much as I could works , it's hard without knowing which wires are which , and I cannot find any diagrams online for this bike ?

Do you think it could be the Killswitch? There's so many wires coming from there I don't know where to start . Also I should mention it appears the fan on the front of the bike has been taken off (the wires have been cut too )

If this bike sparked it would run . The previous owner said he parked it one day and it just wouldn't start after.
