Hello. I have a Bear Tracker 2002. I have been having problems with spark. Since I have removed the battery and starter relay, it gives spark, ewhen pulling the starter by hand. When I install the battery and starter relay, it gives no spark, even if I pull the starter by hand. However, it will not start with the hand starter Has anyone had the same problem?

Does the starter work good no dragging or sluggishness, it sound like you have a grounding issue with the starter installed, see if you can track it down, reinstall the battery and relay and leave the starter out and see if it sparks. The starter could be internally grounded.

Yup it could be a bad earth with the starter issue, but  I think since it won't start with the battery connected and using the pull start it will be wrong wiring into the cdi unit or the wrong cdi unit.

Have you had it long Faroe ? What's the history of this issue ?

Hello again. I have figured out the problem. When I changed the pickup coil a few months ago, I thought the problem might be there again. I disassembled everything and found that the wiring for the pickup coil had been too close to the spinning wheel. Therefore, the cord was damaged. Even though it wasn't completely broken, it was so badly damaged that it didn't provide enough power to the coil. It gave spark, even if it was weak. I repaired the cord, so now it spins like a dream 😊

Yeah that's weird. I'd have not picked that given the symptoms..  spark when pulling by hand.

Perhaps there is some play that allows the crank to move enough to rub, when the starter is operating.. but not move with the pull start. I think I'd be checking the main bearings for play..

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.

My 1992 TRX00 recently stopped firing.  I understand this is a common problem. I have ordered an aftermarket CDI unit.    TJ
