having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.

not sure where to look next

Sounds like sheaves may be sticking, it may also depend to what degree you want excessive power in high gear, generally when i want extreme pulling power i go to low gear and when i hear them clatter when in high gear under a load, i switch to low.

That does sound mighty like what it could be Gw..  Good call.

I'd still clean and lube the moving parts of the sheaves though when changing a belt. It's important they are all moving nicely or the gear ratios and so load on the engine get out of whack, and that could cause the belt to slap more than it should..  But I'll bet Gw's right.. Even if the ratios are hanging a bit high, it can probably be overcome by either throttling off slightly, or changing gear.

Does he bed the new belts in as they require ?

Have the sheaves been dismantled and cleaned, lubed etc ?

What do you clean and lube the sheaves with

I would only clean the sheaves with warm soapy water with a scotch brite pad no lube on the sheave itself just on the part that lets it expand and contract and i use thin oil no grease WD 40 would work but i generally use a very thin motor oil.

Anybody familiar with this noise from my quad? Just started.  It temporarily goes away when I attempt to shift into another gear but shifting has gotten harder too.

      Thanks

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

I am having an issue with a hs500. I bought it broken and have been trying to get it running. It seems to be starving for fuel. If I put my hand over the intake it will crank but will not run for very long because I'm not able to get the correct airflow with my hand. The things I have done so far are. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, mass airflow sensor, idle air adjuster, fuel injector, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the ecu, and still the same issue. I notice the injector does not spray when removed from the head. I dont know if that is common.

I am out of ideas on what to do next. I have removed the fuel line from the injector and it is getting plenty of fuel. If anyone has an idea on what could possibly be the issue I would be happy to try anything at this point.

Hi all. I have a timberwolf 250 2nd that will not start.. I thought it was out of time bc the guy I got it from said it just quit on him. The tensioner had a nut welded to it and it was like2 teeth off. I installed new tensioner and chain and it still will not start. It has fire and it will not hit off brake cleaner. It has compression. Haven't put a gauge but I'm sure it will crank and run with what it has. I double checked my work and it's still in time. Spot on. Both valves move. I'm about to put a feeler gauge on them and I'll cone back but other than that any ideas?
