I should have taken pics from the very beginning but i wasn't really thinking about that and now that i need 10 posts to access the manual i need to figure out what is going on i will start documenting our project i guess

Posted

so what I've done so far we pulled the tank off and drained the old nasty fuel, removed and cleaned the carb, installed new battery (however the starter is not engaging so we use the pull start)

Posted

after all the cleaning and adding fresh fuel I was able to get it to start took it for a spin down the street and back ran ok but needed some adjustments still

we have pulled and cleaned the carb we have pulled the plug and checked the spark, we are getting fuel and spark yet still will not fire up again it doesn't even seem like it's really trying to the compression is good as well

also forgot to add the spark plug is brand new, the only thing i can think of is maybe that kill switch has a problem and when i broke the circuit by using the switch now for some reason the circuit will not close again (i have pulled the switch apart and cleaned it it looks good) can't really get my meter leads into the small switch to test the continuity so thats why i'm looking for a manual download so i can find the wiring diagram to track down what appears to me to be some kind of electrical issue

however if anyone has any suggestions i am open to anything at this point i just want to see the smile on my boys faces when they finally get to ride this little gem

Nice touch with the separate posting, will let it slide for manuals access... Normally I would combine your posts but here's to getting it going for your kid! Good luck with the project 🙂

It does sound like kill switch no making good contact even though its sparking may not be a strong spark, i would take the kill switch apart and clean the contacts, it could also be some trash broke loose and stopped up carb to check, try starting fluid to check and see if it will try to start to check that.

Most  magneto  ignition systems  use grounding to shut down. . Try  disconnecting the kill switch  to  see if you have spark  then..  Also  it could be another safety switch problem  if the starter  doesn't  turn the motor over.   I  know I'm  mentioning things that  are obvious , but it's far too  often  the obvious is overlooked..  Is the quad in neutral? If in gear  most will  not allow the starter to  run, and start ignition is off..  Try running power directly to the starter to see if it  runs. If it does run with direct power,  look  for a relay /  safety switch  causing the no  start problem. Hope  my  generic search advice helps.

A lot of times when these machines sit, a mouse decides to chew one of your wires in a super tucked away spot. If you arent making progress it might be worth it to remove the harness, open it up and inspect for damage. I recently had a neutral wire that got crushed in half by the chain coming off stop me from starting mine for while until i finally got out my volt meter and measured resistance. I suggest taking a pictures when its off the quad, then another one when its opened up. If you are patient and determined youre going to get this machine running for your boys. We are all here to assist if able 🤜🤛

I don't think that bike has electric start?!

If you have spark its not the kill switch.

Is the spark plug wet when you pull it out?

When you cleaned carb did you replace gaskets or re-used the old ones?

That LT80 looks awesome! I’ve been posting about an LT185 I just bought, snd It’s great too but has no “ footboard”, which I wish it had. Your LT80 has a nice footboard made of welded tubular steel, it looks like. I wonder if those would fit the 185…? If anyone happens to know, chime in!

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Hi. I just bought an lt230 1993.  Ive started buying parts for a full rebuild.  But somehow beskepedal has been removed and pegs welded to where They are supposed to be screwed.    I was wondering if anyone have one and Could measure how far out the pegs are.  Like the peg the brake is put on and then peg outside of it.  And the one lower down.  So i can recreate them.

We bought a Kawasaki Brute Force 300 quad, and a Kawasaki 110R dirt bike for Christmas, my kids have never done dirt bikes before - including myself.  I was riding to learn, so I could help teach them... is there any recommended videos they should watch online to help them get started and not scared of riding it?
