The 400EX is not the fastest machine but it is a very capable machine. The 400EX is an awesome machine that will take a beating and just keep on going. The after-market part list for this machine is endless. You can make them as good as you want to spend. I would definitely buy it.

yep, the 400ex has its proven bulletproof engine. thats what made me buy it. a few simple mods like exhaust, filter, jets, 16t front sprocket, and curtis sparks advanced 6degree timing key, will make this thing pull so hard.

now the only flaws i can come about this machine is:

1) stock suspension-its just flat out sucks. i would reccomend for a low budget person to buy some 450r shocks. they bolt right up.

2) its not a top end screamer. i find my self hitting the rev limiter and looking for more throttle. the 16t sprocket aitalked about above will give you that extra kick in the top end.

welcome to the addiction!

Thanks for your replies.

I bought it today and im super impressed with it.

I think it has great power and huge torque (spelling?).

The Spark 6 degree timing.. where can I get that?

Best regards

Tobias

That is what most CDI units offer. That is standard.

I just got off the phone with a guy at Curtis Sparks Racing, he is going to see about shipping one to Sweden. He is going to call me back.

Great ! Thats really nice !

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 400ex, and everyone on here knows that. Mine is 8 years old (a 2000 model) and I just rebuilt the motor for the first time this summer. As far as going fast and keeping up with the 450's...it depends on what kind of riding you do..as I have said before.

I just rode with a Suzuki Quadracer the other day and hung with him the entire time. But, if you're drag racing you'll easily get taken by the 450's...I've also learned, because I race mine in harescrambles...the 400ex starts faster and easier than the 450's....

What do you plan on doing with yours?? Post some pictures!!!! I bet you'll definitely be pleased with your decision to buy it!

So far Im more then pleased. I just love it. But I must say that the stock shocks are really bad. They go up as fast as they go down. "Boink boink " I really have to find others.

I will post pics of it later. I have to get it really dirty first ;)

I agree, the stock 400ex shocks are crap....I still can't believe I raced a whole season of motocross with those things....

I have 450r shocks that have been rebuilt by HyGear Suspension...I paid about $550 bucks for them and I can't imagine riding without them now that I have them...it's awesome. I'm not sure if you have companies over there that would do the rebuilding like we have here, I imagine you would being that you have ATV's there...but, something to look into I guess....and it's a cheaper fix to the problem than going out and buying brand new Elka's for it.

You're right, I did. When I come up with a price and I'm ready to part with I will let you know. Then we can figure out shipping. If you still want them at that time, they're yours.

Thanx a million. You guys on this forum is the greatest !

I have a 2009 Honda Rancher TRX420FA with shifting problems.
Usually it shifts ok when cold but after couple minutes it will stop shifting with no codes.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in first gear is 74psi. The 2nd shift clutch oil pressure when in second gear is 74psi.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in neutral is zero. The problem is when the tranny is in neutral the 2nd shift clutch pressure starts around 10-15psi and builds to 20psi. Is this normal?

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage
