2006 Yamaha Blaster problem

Recommended Posts

Was riding the blaster around the yard, Was in 2nd gear, and all of a sudden the blaster was reving wicked high and my finger wasn't on the throttle, i got scared, i shut the engine button off, took the key out, and was running away, and it still was running, wicked high rev i thought it was going to blow. and after about a minute, it was reved all the way down, then shut off. i tried to start it back up, and it won't. it lost some compression in the kick start, and it's not a blown piston because the kickstart would sieze up. and i just don't know what's wrong with it. We popp start it, and it only stays running for about 20 seconds. and thats it. Any help? Thanks!

Well the person I bought it from did say the Carb was gummed up. But I just don't understand why the hell it would rev up that high, and stay reved while the engine is off, and the key is out, also in neutral. It's confusing the hell out of me. I called a local ATV shop, and they said that there's some kind of ring or something that moves up and down, and he said on blasters that ring tends to become loose, and he said it could've got screwed up and started fueling the wheeler. but idk! =p

Yup, sounds like you have an air leak and maybe a gummed up carb too, a very bad combo. You may not have siezed the motor, but you still may have ruined the piston. It does not take long to melt a hole in the top of a piston, things get very hot, very fast when there is too much air and not enough fuel. You can start with a compression test, but you will more than likely have to take the cylinder off to find the problem, check the piston, rings, cylinder bore, check the head and cylinder for warpage, and replace the head gasket and cylinder base gasket.

weird. has to be a lean problem, since that quad has the TORS system on it- it should not rev like that- it is spozed to shut itself off. Were you going slow and the engine got pretty hot? you may be looking at a set of rings and maybe a piston as well. Let us know OK?

clean the carb out [easy] and check it for leaks, esp round the base of the cylinder. Let us know if you need help.

the blaster is notorious for having the air tube boot slip off the carb, check there for your air leak, it will cause it to over run even when key is turned off. the easiest way to stop it fast is slow it down pull in the clutch upshift to 6th and drop the clutch, it'll stall the motor if your slow enough don't forget to hold the brakes just in case. you could have blown the motor with out seizing it still though
