2001 Yamaha Warrior - Lost Power

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 Warrior. I was riding and lost the baffle and internal parts out of an FMF exhaust. I lost power and the quad will not take gas. I replaced the pipe with an OEM pipe, I still had the problem. Changed the carb., still have the problem. The quad will idle fine but as soon as I give it gas it bogs down. I'm not much of a mechanic more like a parts changer, lol. Any one have any ideas..

Thanks in advance.

To everyone who responded, thank you. To those who were trying to figure this out, thank you.

The problem is fixed. Turns out it was the emergency brake cable. The night this happen not only did I lose the guts in the exhaust I must have hit a rock or something and bent the rear guard for the brakes. The guard bent the adjuster up for the emergency brake, this in turn engaged it. If anyone else is having trouble with their quad not running right, check this first. In my opinion this is a very stupid design on yamaha's part. stupid, stupid, stupid this can not be said enough.

Thanks again for the help.

Bought the project a few weeks ago with weak and intermittent spark. I could smack the CDI box with a screwdriver and it would work fine for a few days. Now, the smack trick is not working and machine is running awful with the weak spark and will most often not fire enough to turn the engine over through combustion (cranks very good). I ordered the GY6 CDI to see if I can get it going again as these CDI boxes are way too expensive even used. battery is fully charged and charging very good.

Wondering if anyone knows how the GY6 (6-pin AC) CDI would wire to this machine. Attached is the electrical diagram. My confusion is with the green and orange wires sharing the 2-pin connector and the Blk/Red wire that runs to the magneto solo. How would I get AC power to the CDI through pin 1 on the GY6 when the CDI has two wires to the pickup-myabe just try one (orange then green) at a time?

So.. it a weird one.. The quad surges as you go down the road. By the looks of my tracks, it's one wheel only. High range, low range, 2 wd , 4 wd.. It just doesn't matter..
You can see in the pictures the marks it leaves. That was in a straight line, with hardly any acceleration.
      Any ideas?

Bucking started about a month ago and works ok after 1/2 hour warmup.  Today while working on it i discovered that if i put the ignition switch in LIGHT position it runs fine right from the start.
I'm stumped!  Any idea why this could be?

Have had the carb apart twice now and can"t find any obvious problems. but if I leave the fuel on it floods the float bowl and leaks out the overflow. What should I be checking?
