ok so i recently bought a 2003 arctic cat 400 4x4. i bought it cheap cause it didn't have spark, so i found the magnents fell off flywheel. i J.B. welded them back on and bike runs. i had one clogged jet. i took the fuel shut off valve out off tank to clean valve plus tank and found two small filters on valve were basically disintigrated. do i need to replace or could i put a inline filter in. the fuel was running out the overflow before and i didn't know if it was getting to much fuel since the filters were torn and opened up.

First off, replace that flywheel, when that JB weld gives way at 5000+ rpm, you may as well be launching bullets out of your side cover. Just replace the screen filter with the OEM part, no sense in messing with it, the stock part is probably just as cheap. Lastly, the fuel is leaking from the overflow because there is something that is keeping the float pin from sealing off the incoming fuel. This is probably due to some residue in the seat, a bad rubber point on the stopper, some gummed fuel buildup on the sides of the stopper, or the float is just not adjusted properly. Either way, I would open the carb back up and thoroghly clean every little nook and cranny and check that float adjustment.

took the carb off and took the float apart there was a bunch of crap in it. claened it out and still leaks. must be that rubber point that seals the fuel from entering. thanx dirt demon. i think i am going to leave the flywheel cause my wife is the only one who rides it and she goes slow. besides i bought the bike for 300 and a new flywheel is about 400-500.

Good luck, even if it happens at low RPM, a magnet flying loose will at least mess up the stator, possibly the engine case, then you are looking at hundreds more. The faster the motor is running, the more catostrophic the damage will be. Besides, you can probably find a decent used one on ebay for cheap. I think you are right about the float vavle, a new one should be less than $15 if you order from an online retailer.

      1989 Moto 4 YFM350ERW intermittent spark.
Quad has set for about 7 years and was running when parked.  When I replaced the battery and attempted to start it had no spark.

What I have done.  Followed troubleshooting in the manual.
      1.       Coil failed the resistance check so I replaced it.  Still no spark.
      2.       I performed resistance checks on the stator and they all pass.
      3.       Found a bad rear brake stop switch and unplugged it and connected the wires in order to disable.  Now I have intermittent spark.  I believe that the issue is with either the stator or CDI and not sure which.
1989 seems to be a transition year for electrical.  I can get new aftermarket CDI units for 87-88 and 90-94.  I cannot get ones for a 89.  I can get new stators for 87-89 and 90-95.  Looking at the schematics the wiring on my moto is closer to the 90 ones on the ATV side of the CDI and closer to the 87-88 on the stator side of the CDI.  Looking at part supply sources the stator housing is the same part # for all the years and looking at some of the stators on Amazon that have the dimensions on them both of the stators are the same size.
What I am thinking of doing is to replace the stator and CDI with a 90-95 one as these parts are all readily available.   Does anyone know if this has been tried before and if there are any issues with doing this.
As a side note I also have a 1993 Moto 4 YFM350ER that has been sitting longer but it is located about 400 miles from me at this time.  By doing this change in addition to being able to get parts I will also have 2 ATV’s that are the same electrically.

I would appreciate being pointing in the correct direction for a wiring diagram and or schematics of the 88 Honda FourTrax 300 4x4 if anybody has any knowledge of how to test the ignition system stator and CDI I don't know if the voltage regulator probably and also the FCU I put a new ignition in it it is a cheap aftermarket one doesn't have the correct plugs but has the correct wiring scheme I get power  the neutral light comes on and the oil light stays on it turns over but I have no spark

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Have you ever been on the trail and your tire valve goes bad. No way to break down the wheel and replace it. A lot of you probably know about this already i had heard of it but never used one. Just punch out the old one insert and tighten down the nut

So far it has worked very well.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.
