I just picked up this project for my son. It has been sitting up for a year. I have drained the fule tank and replaced the battery. I can get it to turn over it i keep the starter engaged. It will fire and try to run but blows white smoke. I am thinking the rings are seized. any suggestions?

Well.... I put seafoam in the piston and went to check the oil and was met with a geyser of oil and gas. Appearently they must have had a full tank of gas and didnt shut off the fuel when the quit using it. I will work on it today and see where we are.

Looks like the carb needs a good cleaning. I always thought white smoke was coolant but I think your ATV is oil cooled. Maybe it is some of the condensation in the exhaust burning off. If is is smoke from oil replace the rings and check the cylinder clearances.

Well i got it running. It is hard to start and still smokes but not alot. I am going to treat the gas and clean the carb. I am going to continue with the sea foam for a bit and see if that doesnt solve the problem. if not looks like a set of rings are in my future.

How tough of a job is it?

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.
