Just joined and hope someone out there can help. I am having an issue with my 2000 Arctic Cat 500 with 1,000 miles on it. All of a sudden it will not start. It was running fine all hunting season then three weeks ago it wouldnt start. It has spark and fuel gets to the carb. I have a service CD and it lists issues of not starting but without spark or without fuel to carb, but not one with spark and with fuel getting to carb. This is what I have done so far with no luck. I have drained and changed the fuel and added an inline fuel filter, cleaned the carb three times, replaced the choke cable (no reason just thought it might help),cleaned the air filter and changed the spark plug. What else could it be? I did not want to buy a CDI box or ignition coil without knowing for sure that is what it is. Would a bad CDI box still allow spark? Help....

Ok, Buck you'er the man. It starts with the pull start (never thought of that). Fuses all are good. But why will it not start with the electic start? At least I'm rolling again.

Charge the battery and try the electric start again also double check the fusees after that try.

Does the starter turn? It is located on top of the motor. Check to see if you hear it turning the engine over or free spinning. If it is not turning over take a meter and see if you have 12V at the starter.

Let me see if I can find the wiring diagram.

The CDI does act up if the battery is low but that is not the case. The Ignition coil is like $25 and that was the first thing I replaced on mine along with larger guage starter wiring but that did not help.

I think it is the starter itself if i will start with the pullstart and keep running fine.

I know I had problems with the starter and I switched it out and all was fine. The brushes were bad. Same thing happened to my buddy with a 400.

The magnets on the flywheel have also been known to cause problems but I don't think the bike would run at all if that is the case.

      1989 Moto 4 YFM350ERW intermittent spark.
Quad has set for about 7 years and was running when parked.  When I replaced the battery and attempted to start it had no spark.

What I have done.  Followed troubleshooting in the manual.
      1.       Coil failed the resistance check so I replaced it.  Still no spark.
      2.       I performed resistance checks on the stator and they all pass.
      3.       Found a bad rear brake stop switch and unplugged it and connected the wires in order to disable.  Now I have intermittent spark.  I believe that the issue is with either the stator or CDI and not sure which.
1989 seems to be a transition year for electrical.  I can get new aftermarket CDI units for 87-88 and 90-94.  I cannot get ones for a 89.  I can get new stators for 87-89 and 90-95.  Looking at the schematics the wiring on my moto is closer to the 90 ones on the ATV side of the CDI and closer to the 87-88 on the stator side of the CDI.  Looking at part supply sources the stator housing is the same part # for all the years and looking at some of the stators on Amazon that have the dimensions on them both of the stators are the same size.
What I am thinking of doing is to replace the stator and CDI with a 90-95 one as these parts are all readily available.   Does anyone know if this has been tried before and if there are any issues with doing this.
As a side note I also have a 1993 Moto 4 YFM350ER that has been sitting longer but it is located about 400 miles from me at this time.  By doing this change in addition to being able to get parts I will also have 2 ATV’s that are the same electrically.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks
