1995 Suzuki LT-F4WDX - Electrical Problem?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I hope someone can help me out.

I have a 95 LT-F4WDX that I have been having a strange problem with. It starts & idles perfectly but when I try to rev it up it spits & sputters. I found about 2 weeks ago that when I turned the switch to "headlights on" it ran fine. That worked for a few days but then I had to position the beam selector switch in the middle of high/low beam for it to run right. That worked for about two days, now it must be on low beam & it has to warm up for about 15 - 20 minutes before it will run ok. When switched to high beam, the lights go out & it dies. It seems to me like it needs to have a load to keep running right.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

trace all your wires and make sure they aren't grounding out and broken i would say first. i'll look to see if i have a manual for your bike and you can look at the electrical schematics ...

it isn't fun, but a couple hours of doing this yourself will save you big in the end, atv mechanics aren't cheap. check for rub marks, bare wires etc., you'll do alright !!

Well I took the entire body off and went through every wire I could find and they all look good. Took apart and cleaned all connections and it still does the same thing. A friend said it could be the voltage regulator. Thoughts on this? Could a faulty regulator cause symptoms like this?

Sounds like you have some wire chaffing going on start chasing wires and cleaning conections you will find it. print off a wiring scematic.

Ok, apparently a voltage regulator/rectifier can cause this?

I checked the battery voltage with the key off & it read 14.5. I turned the key on but not the bike & it slowly dropped to 12.8 and stayed. When I started the bike it immediatly shot up to 19+ volts. I unhooked the regulator/recitifier, started the bike and it read a steady 13.4 & seemed to rev up and run fine.

OK, just wanted to confirm that the voltage regulator was the problem. I put on a new one & everything is fine! Well, I have to replace the taillight & headlight bulbs (they dont seem to like 19+ volts too much) but other than that everything seems fine.

    • Kodiak 400 4x4 wiring problem

      Hello All,
I am looking for any help or suggestion that I might be able to get on how to wire a '04 Kodiak 400 4x4 motor into a Coleman Outfitters / Hisun 400 4x4 Utv. This machine had the Kodiak motor installed and was running until someone stripped the wiring to install new harness. They destroyed the old harness so it of little use now. We have a new harness for the Utv and part of the wiring to the Kodiak CDI and Voltage regulator/rectifier is in place. For now I am just trying to find a good diagram of the wiring needed to Power up the motor. Any help with this part of our issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to help my son this machine running since he bought into this nightmare.
      Thank you,

    • Honda 2013 420 reverse problem

My 2013 Honda 420 occasionally won't go into reverse. I don't think it is in the transmission as it does not make a click or noise. I think it is in the lockout. Someone told me when I ride near the ocean the salt can get on something. Any ideas?

    • 1994 Kawasaki Bayou 300 ignition problem.

I am having what I think is ignition problems. My 1994 Bayou 300 seems to flood very easy when starting. At first I thought it was a carb problem but while testing the spart I noticed that there is no spark while the engine is turning over. When you let off of the ignition swith there is one spark. But only when you let off of the ignition switch. It has a new coil, plug wire, and plug. Any ideas? I dont know if it is the ignition box, or maybe the ignition switch. Any help would be appreciated

    • Cooling Fan Problem

1997 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 I am not sure my cooling fan is working for my oil cooled engine.  I let it idle in my carport for close to one hour and it never came on,  I already tested the fan and it works fine , so right now I have a toggle switch that I placed on it to turn it off and on.  The thing is I am not sure how long it would actually take for the cooling fan to come on with a oil cooled engine,  so really I am not sure rather it is working are not if it takes even longer then the time I let it idle to come on.  Can someone give me an ideal about it and the best way to test it to be sure before I start buying anything?

Ok, so got this thing, assembled, and even added acid/assembled the battery with a solid trickle charge and the battery is fine.
As far as I can tell, I have checked all the fuses I can find, but I have ZERO power to anything. Even the console will not light up when turned to ON.
Is there some sort of hidden parental/child disconnect or safety switch that I'm not aware of? ANY help would be appreciated.

A week ago I could not even get close to starting it. But now I adjusted the valves (exhaust valve was not closed). i got it running but would not run without choke. i adjusted the float because it was to low tried starting it up again and it would not even start. So i went back and looked at the valves and the valve was now open again so i adjusted it and it started right up and ran perfect without choke. So i put it all back together thinking it was ready to go. Started it up and let it run for a little bit. i turned it off and tried starting it again there was NOTHING. took it apart and there was 0 compression and the exhaust valve was open again. I am completely lost need help PLEASE!!!:aargh:
