Depends on your mechanical skill or how much money your willing to spend. Open up your airbox, rejet the carb, cam, 440 kit, port n polish all will help. Change the front sprocket to a 14t for more low end grunt.

Hello,

I have a 400ex with just a few add ons pipe, filter nothing done to the motor.

I want faster how do i do this? Will i blow it up? Same qeustion for my buds z400

PLEASE help us.

There pretty deep. But whats the best mods without giving a bigger chance for a blown up 400ex? lol

if its pretty deep go with a 500cc big bore kit. I did. the stroked rod bearing spins slower so in theory it wears out less and you can run 93 pump gas :) It will set you back 1000 for the kit. You should also add a cam, P&P, valves. Also the reverse oil flow mod with cooler helps keep the top end alot cooler. VERY important with an air cooled. Total should be with building $2400 - $2700. For less coin go with a 440 kit. I would recommend the oil cooler mod with any sort of internal work done to have that piece of mind

From what your describing is you did all the bolt ons. now you have to break open the motor.

Stock motor maybe a stage 1 from Hot Cams. remember you have to rejet your carb.

i have full exhaust! And what cam with stock motor?

I would research that ! Depending on what you plan to do with it trail riding -racing - dune riding etc I`ve owned both quads you mentioned and both are fun stock ! JMO If I was gonna dump a bunch of $$$ into something it would be a 450 or a 700

For just bolt ons i would go with stage 1. If your going to go with a p&p or engine work stage 2.

Talk to a sales rep a Hot Cams before you buy they will know whats the perfect fit

Most likely mid to upper hp improvments. You will notice more low end torque improvments with bigger pistons or longer strokes.

      I got this 400, that wouldn't start. It would try, but wouldn't catch. I checked the valves and the L intake was tight at .002. The compression came in around 120. It didn't improve after a couple of drops of oil into the cylinder. So,I figured it was the valve causing the problem. So, I got the valves squared away, but it still won't start. I checked the spark and it seems like it's getting an intermittent spark. It fires a few times then nothing. If l let up on the button and then hit again immediately, it will fire a few more times, then repeat. So, what am I looking at as a possibility? Electrical issues are not my strong point. LOL

      Met with this guy to sell the unit. He was looking the unit over while sitting on it and next thing happened he took off on it right in front of me. I had my wife and kids with me and our hearts sank. The rear tires are very easily spotted by having a large yellow W for the brand Bkt

      Bikes were cabled and locked. Bike had to be taken apart and put back together to be stolen. All caught on video. 2 white males. Tall. Wore masks. Took them 30 minutes to steal 2 bikes.

      I was riding my 400ex one day and when i shut it off to put it in the garage i tried to start it put again to drive it into the garge and it wouldnt start.I put a compression tester on it and its like 30 psi with out throttle and 0 psi WITH THROTTLE.
      when i put my finger over the hole it fell likes its pulling my finger in more then its pushing it out 
       
      Has good spark.When i took it into the shop the said it had 1oz of oil in it and a tiny pit of metal shaving(TINY BIT LIKE 30 flakes)
      When i try to pull start (push start/roll start) it made a not normal sound  and wouldnt stay running.
      If my bottom end is blow why would it still turn over fine,
      Are my valves siezed or not working properly 
      or is my timing off causeing valves to not open in correct order with fire 
      PLEASE HELP all help is appreciated

      I have a 08 artic cat 366 4x4 fis red.   Blown motor.  Anyone know or where to find out what engines are compatible with this bike?  Would love to upgrade if possible.  My other option is to rebuild.  It broke good might have pieces in jug!!  So might have to come all the way apart.   Help please

      I loosened the allen bolts on the carrier and when I went to put my driver in the alot to pull back and tighten the chain, I noticed the holes were facing the front of the bike. I tried to slide a driver in and tighten the chain but the thing would not budge. I nearly ripped the tip off the driver in the slot. Any suggestions?

      The title is for attention. I’m prepping my cylinder head off of an unknown year 400ex to install on my quad. And I’m examining it and there’s literally a Jewish start( Star of David) protruding from the metal on the camshaft side of the head. It’s not imprinted or etched/ engraved. It’s coming out of the metal. DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ON WHY ITS THERE??? I’ve attached a picture
