My name is Thomas and I am new to this website. I have a Sportsman 400 and just had a new winch installed on it. battery seemed weak after installing the winch. Replaced battery but will not start at all now. Everything is hooked up right and I had the winch installed professionaly. Do I need to upgrade to a stronger battery ? Or take it back to the shop and have them deal with it ?

if the bike worked well before the install, i would take it back to the shop myself. it may have been hooked up direct and not thru the ignition, meaning that it will draw 100% of the time instead of just when the key is turned on ...

Yea I am here this week. Its just the engine turns sounds like it wants to start but just doesnt. At one point it started for a few seconds then cut back out.

Take it back Tom, but I would just check that the battery terminals are done up nice and tight maybe spray some WD on them and charge the battery for an hour or so but not to long it is a little battery after all:wink: theres nothing like paying good money for a bodgy job:no: Tom will the winch work when the key is in the off position/turned off?

Ok found it today. I feel so stupid. When I picked it up from the shop they had the fuel reservoir switch on off and I never checked it. Im new to this game. Bought it to plow snow in tite spaces a truck cant get to. Runs like a top now haha.

I own a 2007 Polaris Sportsman EFI X2 model and have for the past months been experiencing loads of issues. Basically the Sportsman will only start if the throttle lever is pushed and will not remain on idle. This situation has persisted for months now and I have replaced the following parts:

      Sparking Plug
      Fuel Injector
      Fuel Pump
      Fuel Filter
      Fuel Valve
      Fuel lines
      Power Control Module

The last part replaced was the Power Control Module and the Sportsman was tested and worked fine on a couple of occasions which were days apart so much so that some weeks later I took the Sportsman for an extensive ride and it worked perfectly. This was three weeks ago and today I tried to start the ATV it worked fine a few minutes and decided to switch it off so that I could continue with some prep work. A few minutes later tried to start it up again but noticed that it would only start if the throttle lever was pushed and once I removed my finger from the throttle lever the engine would not stay in idle and would simply shut down. Several attempts were made to start this and also tried to re-adjust the setting by turning the built in wheel like mechanism in the throttle cable but it was to no avail.

The above have been repeating itself on an off basis. Each time a part is replaced the ATV would work and then all of a sudden will not keep its idle. At this stage I cannot think of any other solution other than possibly some sensors which might have an intermitting fault but I cannot really say.

      Would greatly appreciate any assistance.

      Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone looking for a suggestion of where i can start looking. But first I'd like to explain what happened. Took the bike this morning got it started in 6 degrees celsius in 6-7 kicks? No choke. Drove 6km and when shifted to next gear bike decided to just shut off, stopped checked everything out seemed good, started first kick and on i went, drove maybe another 2km bike did same thing but this time it took me 10-15 kicks to get it started, on the third time after a kilometer decided not to start at all. Kicked it like a 450 a couple hundred times, nothing. So far checked gas is good, bypassed fuel filter and on/off valve to eliminate that problem, hot wired the kill switch in case something got corroded there. Nothing. Any suggestions would be welcomed. (Heard valve adjustment are a must do?)
