I have a 2002 Kawasaki 650 Prairie. When I first take off I have a belt squeal in the front pulley.Have gone inside pulleys with medium sandpaper but still have squeal.Installed new belt & still have squeal.

Any suggestions?Would like to fix without spending $$$ on new parts.

my 03 650 does that same thing also... I have a shim to put in mine if I can ever get around to it .. the shim is cheap.. but a pain the the but cause ya gotta take the clutch apart to install it ..a clutch kit will also solve it ..I have fixed the same issue b4 on a 700 with the clutch spring kit ..it allows the motor to rev just a little more b4 it grabs ...

Took out secondary & took apart.Had 2 shims(a thick&athin).Took out the thin & re-installed secondary.Still squealled.Took out secondary,pulled apart & took out thick&re-installed thin.Re-installed secondary.STILL squeals @ takeoff but not as bad.Left that way because didnt know if I should take out both shims.

taking out the shim on the secondary wont solve the prob.. the main clutch is ware the squeal issue is usually coming from.. I have raced snowmobiles and snowmobile powered quads and its the main clutch that is not closing fast enough or it hangs up and you get a squeal.. if you want to really get into it you need to change the spring and spring rate and put a shim in it to get it away from the slight groove that is there ware it sits at idle .. and you can change the the spire that has the sharp angles and the rollers and really get the issue solved .. but it gets expensive ..if you can put a shim in the main clutch to get the clutch face slightly closer to the belt it should stop the squeal..i have extensive experience with the clutch systems on these machines ..

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good.
I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.
I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.
