  1. oh ok.  so it should give compression specs in the service manual?  Also have heard talk on 'torquing to spec'   I assume you find the spec in the manual as well but how do you measure the torque applied to a bolt?
    Yes sir. Everything you need to know is in the manual. You would need a torque wrench to achieve proper torque. Most have patterns to torque which can also be in the manual.

  2. Every cylinder is different depending on stoke and piston size. Smoking is told by color of smoke. White or blue is oil or gas. You would have to smell it and see how it performs. Black is oil or rich. Again, smell it.

  3. can i ruin anything by lightly driving it and
     
    does the engine have to come out for this

    Depends on the compression. You could lose alot of oil if it runs for lengthy amount of time. Could overheat. Many things can happen but to catch it early enough is key. The engine can stay. The head is 8 or more bolts. Comes off easily.
