First good work on getting this back up to speed. You have done a lot of work. It does sound like you are running rich with your carb, but i dont think thats the problem, no way it could fowl the plug bad enough in 1/2 mile to not start. If it was burning oil the black would be shiny. I wouls start by checking the coil, make sure its in spec, you do have a carb problem if you see no change after adjusting the mixture screw. What type carb are you running and what are your settings and jet sizes. Does it smoke at all when running, and you might also check the compression after its warm and wont start, just for curiosity sake.

It sounds like the internals of your muffler may be burnt out and the crack isnt helping, you might try fixing the crack aand see if that helps, but if its that annoying i would opt to replace the muffler. -

I would choose power steering may not be the mod you are refering to, but if i ever get another one that would be a must have for me. I also may try an automatic i have always had manual shift. -
If they have been sitting for a while i would take the oil line loose at the carb to make sure iit it pumping oil in to the carb, also measure the amount that it is pumping. I think for the first tank or two i would use a light premix also just to get everything lubed up good. I know these systems are fairly reliable but one little fluke and your engine is fried.

There should be 12 v going to the sensor, on the wire that plugs into the sensor, when temp gets hot enough the sensor makes contact and sends 12v to the fan. It definately could be the thermostat, with the radiator cap off get it up to operating temp and see if there is water movement within the radiator if there is the thermostat is working. Im not sure about the diade i havent looked at a wiring diagram.

Not exactly sure what size the holes are but that sounds about right.

Unplug the fan from the wiring harness and run extra wires from the battery and attach to the fan plug.

I have only used all balls carb kits, so far working well, most carb kits are so cheap i cant imagine them being high quality and heard good things about the all balls kit.

I still use conventional oil in my old worn bikes, i use fully synthetic in my autos, but my expierience with synthetic in older engines is that it seems thinner than dino oil of the same grade and in older worn bikes they tend to use more oil if switched to synthetic. I dont race or really abuse the engines but i have still noticed using more oil if switched to synthetic, i have never really understood the reasoning behind half and half oil and never used it.

Chinese carbs have gotten a bad rep, and thats because people like me get a bad one and complain, but recently i have gotten one that is OK, it does not compare to OEM but most people wouldnt notice it , i do, they are many good ones out there, but the trick is finding them. The best way is from word of mouth from people who has used them, or at least get one that has a company brand. If they go to the trouble of putting their name on it thats a plus. I have always been impressed with the build quality, but the jetting is wrong, wheather it is fuel jets to air jets ratio, im not really sure.

I have had good luck getting them out with carb cleaner, i use Berryman B12 chemtool, a little stronger than most carb cleaners, may have to let them set for a few hrs but generally they will come out without damage.
