  1. If you didn't see any smoke you might have a good tight engine that hasn't been abused, the Kodiaks are water cooled so should run cooler than air cooled engine, less wear.
  2. When I see plug that looks like that I think it is flooding, but since you put a new carb on it with no change I would suspect it was not getting a hot enough spark which would point to the cdi, and it also sound like the timing isn't advancing enough to keep up with the increase in throttle which would also point to cdi. It could be burning some oil but I don't think that's your problem, the plug looks sutty black and not shiny black. When its running is the smoke black or blue.
  3. I don't know how far you have it tore down but I would try really hard to get it unstuck if you don't break a ring it usually will come back, now if its seized from running with no oil that's a different story you can use a bore scope to find that out
  4. Agreed parts have gotten so expensive there aren't cheap fixes anymore. Around here parts bikes are going for around 500.00 im talking about complete junkers so the parts are well used, end up costing more than anticipated, been there, done that.
  5. Good advise mech. I have glued them back on before with JB weld, you just have to really roughen the surface ,I did it just for a quick fix on an old beater that I didn't want to spend a lot of money on still holding a year later but I don't really trust it.
  6. Not really familiar with the Coleman but Belts do stretch a bit over time but there should be an adjustment for that.

  8. Mech, that is the best explanation of brake fluid and shoe diagnostics I have ever heard, thanks for the info.
  9. I tried using a Garmin once years ago and it didn't seem really accurate maybe moving too slowly

I did go with the Eiger, its newer a little more money, but it runs and shifts, it is flooding badly I can smell it, but I always go through the carbs and petcock anyway so no big deal, has a title but it wasn't issued to the guy I bought it from, curious to see what DMV has to say about that.
  11. My thought is if the fuse is getting hot, when water hits it it blows. Anything on the circuit that could be overloading it.
  12. Just wanted to get a little input from members that had owned these quads, your experiences and problems. Not sure about the engines, no where on the suzuki engine does it say suzuki, just wondering who makes the engine, I know yamaha engines are tough as nails , but never had an auto before and the kodiak is auto. I like the feel of the suzuki hadn't had much experience riding it yet, still working on it. The Kodiak appears a little smaller, don't own it yet, so not sure how it fits me, Im 6:3 200 pds. Thanks!

I agree with the Honda 250 my father has one, has had it about 30 years, i think its a four trax not 4 wheel drive its an 87 model, engine bulletproof , starter not so much, and its not the starter itself it the gears, they break and get into the stator expensive repair, I think its happened 3 times since he has had it. It always makes a clunk sound when starting even with new gears and starter, never any carb problems or running problems. The only thing, I never liked the way Hondas reverse switch worked, push the plastic button and pull the brake lever at the same time. It always worked I just never liked it.
  16. Did a little more research, No ATV can be operated on public roads in the state of miss. Requirements to get a title. My state does not require ATV to be titled, but this is what's involved. Most states handle ATV titling and registration via the state motor vehicle agency. In general, most states require some basic information for these transactions: A certificate of title or manufacturer's statement of origin signed over to you. A signed application for title. An ATV bill of sale. Proof of vehicle identification number (VIN). A notarized lien release, if applicable. Proof of liability insurance. An application fee.
  17. One other thing I thought was interesting. I went online to get a Bill of Sale for ATV. The one you are supposed to use in my state, for ATV, is personal property Bill of Sale. No place for buyers address sellers address or Vin #. Interesting they do not fall under the motor vehicle Bill of Sale like motorcycles. I still don't think iv gotten a correct answer from DMV she seemed like a deer in headlights when I asked the question.
  18. Sound like the engine is not locked up I would squirt some oil down in the cylinder to make sure rings are well lubricated before I turn it over much. I would pull the drain plug not completely at first just to see if any water comes out then pull it all the way out and let all the oil drain out look at it to see if its milky looking, and change the oil. From the photo it appears the master cylinder needs replacing you can take it all apart clean it and try soaking the rubber parts in brake fluid but in my experience it won't come back. As far as electrical look for corrosion on connectors and fuse box and check the ground. Hope this helps a little, 25 years is a long time to sit out in the weather.

Sounds like you on the right track if I had done all that you have done with no change, CDI would be what I would look at next , electronics kill a lot of older bikes because of cost to replace. Maybe try freezing it next, iv done that to revive old battery sometimes it works but most time it doesn't.
  20. Thats the way it works here. In order to get title you have to buy the first year tag not an option. You can let it expire the next year and never buy another but if you ever want it tagged again you have to pay back taxes.
  21. This is in my state Mississippi may not be that way everywhere, but here 50 dollar title fee plus tag not sure how much that is plus insurance and i guess certificate of Authenticity comes from the manufacturer Honda, yamaha etc. Not even sure how to go about getting that.
  22. Went to DMV today to see what's involved in getting a title, you have to have old title to get new title, or certificate of origin from manufacturer and proof of insurance.
  23. It seems every ATV i look at to buy used has no title, does everyone loose there title, or do they change hands so often the title is lost in the shuffle. The ones that do have titles are triple the price. I am new to buying used quads is this pretty standard procedure. I know all quads are good and tough but thought it might be good to hear opinions as to what member think is the best, from your experiences.
  24. I like Berryman Chemtool get it at any autoparts store and Even walmart they make it in a spray also, not sure if Walmart has that, but any carb cleaner will do, minimal exposure to the vacuum diaphragm on the slides and rubber parts.
  25. I would start by taking the bowl off and cleaning them carefully taking them apart and you may get by without parts.
