a little thrown off by this..so when you say pump the throttle are you referring to pumping the throttle prior to starting or while it is running? Also did you bring it to the dealer with this problem or after they serviced it did you have this problem?
My best guess from the info you have the engine is being starved of fuel and the carb needs to be adjusted. Probably the wrong fuel to air ratio,,,but thats a maybe not totally sure yet

well guys i just took apart the gear case by myself(kind of proud i did it pat myself on the back) very simple design easy to work with....but the 16 dollar spring is a huge design flaw this is the second time the spring broke.... I can't find any pieces of the spring anywhere just metal shavings...but the gears look fine case ha a few very small scrapes in it but its all good...well anyway my point being is that a 16 dollar spring cost me 400$ to replace at the dealer....now i can sell the thing for more...hopefully

Great company make top notch products... But to be honest I wouldnt know exactly what primary spring to recommend for top end. In my cat i put a orange primary springs which added a lot of low end and took a little off my top end speed. Try giving them a call they are very helpful and knowledgeable. They will set you up with the right kit you need

Well i just got an offer from the dealer to buy the can-am they will pay me 1100, haha im not going to sell it for that low but im curious what do you guys think i could sell it for?

i have had the same problem with my 94 polaris 400L... turns out my inner clutch cover was old and worn out and it had play in it....besides that the engine had a broken mount so it vibrated a lot which caused the cover to move an rub up against the primary clutch which just hacked my cover to bits.

i was thinking about replacing the spring. but i dont know if i want to waste anymore money on it. just yesterday the carburator just fell out (haha)...and i heard there are valve issues after 150 hrs....i think im just going to sell it for 1200 to a dealer...thanks for the input demon.

Need some info about this atv. Looking to trade my 2007 can-am rally for it. The rally is falling apart and the transmission selector needs a new spring so instead of spending 500 for the mechanic to fix it im getting rid of it.
SOOOOO, if there are any problems with the 1987 yamaha big bears i should know about please tell me. i.e. engine problems, front diff problems, it would be greatly appreciated thanks,

im not recommending it but yea you could power wash the case...but everything in the engine HAS TO COME OUT.i would take all the bearings and everything and soak them in motor oil...

yea a lot of things will fall out wen u split the case. wen they said use a pressure washer were they referring to washing the outside or the inside? the inside you can not wash with water. that willl do a lot of damage especially if it is pressurized

is it efi? if not the rough running at idle could be caused from ur rpms being set to high...as for the 4wd and the diff not disengaging, um have you stopped when switching from 2wd to 4wd and then to diff lock??...or have u been engaging it while moving?

i have not taken my primary clutch apart...but my best assumption would be that the primary clutch spring is worn causing the belt torun high on the clutches and wear out.... here is a link to all the parts for your clutch...CheapCycleParts.com's 1998 Polaris ATV XPLORER 400 (W98CC38C) Parts List
