hi

gunna start by saying i got this on trade and was not informed of any mods

this is gunna be a little long but really need help ive been struggling with it alot

i found out for my self a dyno jet kit was installed

ok so atv starts right away idles great when im riding in ANY gear EXCEPT 1st
if i go to hammer the throttle the atv starts bogging it wont die it will just bogg till i let off the throttle and slowly climb up the rpms again for example...

im driving in 3rd shift to 4th and snap the throttle it bogs but if i shift to 3rd and slowely use throttle it runs fine

the other day i went to go climb a short hill not very steep or long in 3rd gear
and just when i got to the top almost it stalled i tried again in 2nd stalled again put it in 1st LOW and it climbed right up

today i went riding in some water (its snorkled and sealed verywell no water is getting in)

and i cannot go through tire high water in anygear other then 1st it will just bogg and almost die in 1st it powers throught the watter BUT i did a water wheelie in 1st and just as i reached the peak of the wheelie it bogged in the water and i couldnt throttle without a bog till i got out oof the water...

my carb is spotless ive cleaned it 10 times jets arenot plugged i can see light through every one diaghram is not pinched or poked

my PMS screw is 3 turns out as advised and my needle clip is 3rd slot from the top

battery is fully charged and not over charging i checked..

so im thinking 3 things

1 carb is running out of gas when snapping the throttle or going through mud or water or haveing any type of load ( dosent sound right to me though)

2 main jet to big stock says 138*with pump ..im running a 144

3 maby my clutch is not good any more ? i dont know...

at this point im lost if anyone at all has some info id apreceate it i should be able to have low end power in 2nd 3rd and 4th depending on what im doing but i have no low end power in any gear other then 1st ...

and my top end is suffering while trying to quickly accelerate

My  best guess   would be  to  go  with the stock  jet. In the  good ole days  of  carburetted cars  those symptoms  would  point to  a faulty  acceleration pump.  Sudden  opening  of  the  throttle  causes  a  drop in vacuum  and with it    a momentary starving of  fuel . That's  where  the  accelerator pump  gives  it  a shot  to make  up  for that  momentary   starvation ..  It  could be  with the  larger  than  normal  main  jet  and  air screw opened   up ( most   of them  work  best  around  1  1/2 to 2  turns  out  from  seated ) you are  getting that  vacuum  drop  and  fuel  starvation when  you  suddenly  open  it  up.  By opening the throttle  slowly  you  don't  lose the  vacuum and fuel  delivery.

Is the choke automatic, they were made very poorly and die very often. It works by letting more fuel into the carb. This will make it bog down. I had this problem on my 400. A new choke is $300, you can disconnect the choke and flip a spring around in the choke to fix it. This will make the choke be stuff off though.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

What's the best kids atv out there? I've seen everything from the ones released by the major manufacturers to all those knock offs. Kawasaki has a KFX 50 that is pretty nice for under $1800...

Anyone purchase or check out Rockymtnatv lately? Well I was just browsing over there and they have a pretty cool section called Ten Dollars Or Less. Some interesting things to check out if you are in the market.
