Hey guys,

Looking for some info on a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak.  When I leave it sitting I get fuel leaking out of the carb drain.  What causes this?  Float stuck?

Posted

Hey nel welcome to Quadcrazy.

That leak is an overflow condition caused by the either the float getting stuck, float pin has a piece of dirt stuck up at the top of the pin which is likely or the float has a hole in it ano good full of fuel (not likely)

Make sure that the screw on the bottom of the bowl is not loose and leaking and appears to be the over flow hose draining.

Take the carb off and pull the bowl off of the carb and remove the pin and clean it out. Inspect the top of the pin for damage.

Put the float back in and put a clean hose on the  fuel connection of the carb hold it up and blow into the fuel line and lift the float and see if it closes the air flow off. If so you should be good.  Also double check the air fuel mixture screw unless the bike is running good and it’s just the fuel leak that’s the problem.

I will take a look and get back to you. Also keep in mind if the bike is sitting even for a short period of time the top of that pin gets a shellack type build up from the fuel sitting up there and could just be that.  So don’t necessarily look for a piece of dirt etc. could be just gook!

Yeah I suspect that's all it is.  It has been sitting for quite a while...Once I can get the throttle cable undone I'll pull it off and clean it up...Now if only I had a manual...HAHA

My dads 03 kodiak 400 does same thing. Fuel petcock is off and fuel still drips out overflow hose. Apparently something isnt letting the float needle close all the way. Im going rebuild my dads carb.

      Hi
Is looking for a quad to pull a flail mower as my first priority, but also a bit of fun.
So its going to be pulling a flail mower on high grass / weed on a bumpy field at pretty low speed.
My budget is not high, so is mostly looking at a old Yamaha Kodiak 400cc / Suzuki Eiger 400cc or similar.
What machine would you recommend  ?  - Really want a solid machine since I am no mechanic but can perform a early service myself.

(English is not my native, hope it makes sense)

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!
