2017 Taotao 110 cc carb issues

Recommended Posts

picked up this pos bike for $80 not running.  took it home, cleaned the carb and bypassed the fuse-  ran great (other than the rev limiter- those things are so stupid)  Then one day out of the blue it starts flooding on cold startup and wont idle cold, but idles to fast warm.  (too fast being about half throttle speed heh).  I tried a new carb ($10) and new sp.  new carb wouldnt make it run except on choke and then it was gushing white smoke.  I had better things to do with my time so I parked it in a shed and used it for a work bench for a while...  this last weekend, I wanted to take it along with the sportman to a mens retreat to let the younger boys have some fun on it--  took about 30mins to pull all the crap I had accumulated on it and then rolled it down to my workshop, put the old carb back on after adjusting the needle clip up two notches (leaner) and threw it back on the bike.  Will turn over, but no fire.  I didnt have time to check sp that day but just wanted some incite on what could be wrong with this quad (if it even qualifies as being called that)

For $80, you can't go wrong. I think you can get the carbs for those on amazon cheap, not sure though. That's probably what I would do first.

I had a similar bIke I picked up a few years back.   Bike would not start.  Pulled the plug it looked ok. Threw a new one in and bang fired right up.  Smoked alot also but it’s what I expected from a bike like that.  I gave it away to a friend so his little guy could Learn how to ride.  Still runs and still does the same shit. Did the same thing from time to time.  Weird but true.

yup.  @Frank Angerano, you get what you pay for....  haha

@Ajmboy I already bought a new carb off amazon for $10.

I think its a spark issue rn cause the bike wont fire period.  turns over fine

CDI's on these are really bad, I've gone through several over the years. The kids love the little turds or they just wouldn't be worth the hassle. Also, buy a GOOD fuel filter for a couple bucks from a real atv dealer, the ones out of china self destruct causing more problems than the solve.

yea, that wagon has been through hell and back.  used to do drifts with it on the driveway...  both me and my brother when he was small.  Its got a new back axle (we broke the old one) and I broke the steering out of it and had to fix that...  its a ton wagon too- rated up to 2000 pounds.

I could see that thing working as a good dolly to put a atv on while pulling wheels off  or working on the engine to get it up to a decent hight and moving it around.

oh thanks- was going to do this when I got around to working on it again...  It might very well be valves out of clearance or something...  another thing is the battery charges fine- but loses charge fast (like in a couple days if not charged)  I would probably just let that slide since it hold charge overnight but I will definitely tell whoever buys it once I get it running that the battery could use changed..

anyone know what the valves clearance are on this bike??  And since the head is positioned almost below the crank, wont all the oil drain as soon as I remove the valve caps?

changed the spark plug....again- and it fires up then dies with starter fluid.  gonna take the carb off and clean it again and see what that does.  Compression is 120 pounds.  I only have $100 in it so you all think if cleaning the carb doesnt work, then just sell it for like $200?

What is the opinion on carb kits? What's one of the better brands of aftermarket? OEM is always preferred but not practical, chinese cheapie is never a good option.
      Thoughts ?

Not sure how many of you will remember this or give a crap about it but back in 2016 I picked up my first old atv to rebuild. Yamaha bear tracker 250. I picked it up in NJ while I was out looking for a quad for my little guy since he started this atv thing after seeing a few old pictures of me in my hay day riding.

The person I was getting the 50cc quad had this one laying around and asked if I was interested in it.  It was beat up and hadn’t ran in a few years.  No spark the guy said and he left it to sit.  I wound up taking both bikes.
I wish I had pics but I deleted the original post on Quadcrazy and lost the old ones on my phone when I upgraded.
This was the atv that caused me to stumble upon Quadcrazy since I needed a little help with the spark issue.  So needless to say I fixed it, did some cosmetic work and she was good to go. I took it upstate and used the shit out of it for just about everything under the sun. This atv made it through some deep snow, mud etc. I decided to leave it up there and use it as a back up since it’s been about 50 atv’s later and I have newer machines now. But unfortunately it sat for some time and it’s a little beat up so I brought it back home and going to clean it up. Amazing how one year sitting has done so much damage.
This was the first atv that I owned in over 30 years! It’s the atv that brought me here to Quadcrazy where now I endlessly check the site to see what’s going on, who’s talking about what and who can we help with there problem or can help me with mine as well as the on slot of what I do today as a hobby with atv’s. It’s been a great pass time for me and my son with the projects we have gotten and get into. He’s learned how to ride so well it scares me a little watching him. He’s learned how to fix, maintain and upgrade atv’s. He’s insanely good with carburetors as well.
It’s a good thing when a kid wants to play in the garage over his X Box!!
The funny thing about this bike is that when we finished it we thought it was the best thing! We were missing a rack on the front and didn’t care since it looked ok, had no clue where to get parts or how to fix plastics. I was so new to this again since I was staring all over again and now had to remember things and also teach my son!
So we will be tearing into the bear tracker to get her up and running again as well as maybe a few new cosmetic changes and hang on to her for a while since I love this bike.  The last two pics are the bike the day we finished putting it all back together and when it was upstate for the first week.

Had no intention of this post going so long. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have an '02 Taurus with 85k miles on her that I just bought.  Today when I was checking something under the hood I noticed this metal line cold and dripping with water...

I had the air on but turned to the position of arrows pointing out of the dash and floor vents only.  The defrost or a/c function was not selected.  It seems to be doing it consistently.  I haven't traced all the parts of this car's a/c system yet but I don't know of anything else under a hood that turns cold and sweats.  Why would my compressor be working when it's not selected?  What tests should I run?
