2017 Taotao 110 cc carb issues

Recommended Posts

picked up this pos bike for $80 not running.  took it home, cleaned the carb and bypassed the fuse-  ran great (other than the rev limiter- those things are so stupid)  Then one day out of the blue it starts flooding on cold startup and wont idle cold, but idles to fast warm.  (too fast being about half throttle speed heh).  I tried a new carb ($10) and new sp.  new carb wouldnt make it run except on choke and then it was gushing white smoke.  I had better things to do with my time so I parked it in a shed and used it for a work bench for a while...  this last weekend, I wanted to take it along with the sportman to a mens retreat to let the younger boys have some fun on it--  took about 30mins to pull all the crap I had accumulated on it and then rolled it down to my workshop, put the old carb back on after adjusting the needle clip up two notches (leaner) and threw it back on the bike.  Will turn over, but no fire.  I didnt have time to check sp that day but just wanted some incite on what could be wrong with this quad (if it even qualifies as being called that)

I had a similar bIke I picked up a few years back.   Bike would not start.  Pulled the plug it looked ok. Threw a new one in and bang fired right up.  Smoked alot also but it’s what I expected from a bike like that.  I gave it away to a friend so his little guy could Learn how to ride.  Still runs and still does the same sh**. Did the same thing from time to time.  Weird but true.

CDI's on these are really bad, I've gone through several over the years. The kids love the little turds or they just wouldn't be worth the hassle. Also, buy a GOOD fuel filter for a couple bucks from a real atv dealer, the ones out of china self destruct causing more problems than the solve.

yea, that wagon has been through hell and back.  used to do drifts with it on the driveway...  both me and my brother when he was small.  Its got a new back axle (we broke the old one) and I broke the steering out of it and had to fix that...  its a ton wagon too- rated up to 2000 pounds.

oh thanks- was going to do this when I got around to working on it again...  It might very well be valves out of clearance or something...  another thing is the battery charges fine- but loses charge fast (like in a couple days if not charged)  I would probably just let that slide since it hold charge overnight but I will definitely tell whoever buys it once I get it running that the battery could use changed..

anyone know what the valves clearance are on this bike??  And since the head is positioned almost below the crank, wont all the oil drain as soon as I remove the valve caps?

Agree. I have also purchased several CDI's for our kids quad and atleast 2 of those has been already DOA. But those are pretty cheap in China...

From Arkansas. Just bought a 2012 Gator 850i RSX because I could not pass up the price. BUT it has an idle problem. So, to be honest, I joined just to get a service manual. I have a choice: 1)Buy a hard copy: ~$100; 2)Buy a CD ~$35.00; Get a direct download for free posting 10 times; or get a download for $29.00 (subscription). Haven't decided what to do yet.

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

Howdy y'all, I'm trying to fix a neighbors 2015 Brute Force 300. Came in with hard to start and won't idle except on choke issue. I pulled the carb and found the pilot jet as well as the emulsion tube partially clogged. Cleaned up everything, put it back together, still having issues...  It will start right up on choke and will also start off choke if you give it just a touch of throttle but it absolutely will not idle unless it's choked just a touch. Also, excuse my ignorance but I'm assuming the "dial" thingy attached to the carb that turns in and out is for setting idle??

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, I received a 98 Yamaha Timberwolf from my brother for free, and I'm working on getting it going.
I am having the following problem:
The engine is backfiring through the carb.
I have done the following to try and get the four wheeler running:
Rebuilt the carb and set the air screw to 1-1/4 turn out and the circlip at middle position 3
Replaced the coil, because the cable was loose at the coil end
Repaired the main ground, coming from the battery
Replaced the ignition switch, because my brother couldn't find the key. New switch tested good
Tested the kill switch and it tested good
New coil tested goodfor both primary and secondary coils
Pickup coil resistance is at 195, which is correct
My source coil, is where I believe the issue is. The resistance is 310ohms, and it should be between 428-523ohms
When I opened the stator housing, there was significant oil, which I have read is normal. Does it sound like I'm on the right track replacing the source coil? Could this be causing my backfiring issue? It looks like the source coil is part of the stator assembly, is this correct? 4BD-85510-20-00 STATOR ASSY
