Absolutely! Go through the bike and dont look excited. And explain how much money in parts and labor you have to put into the bike to what I like to say “get it back to good”  is.   Show him the cash and say look I’m here to buy.  He will come back at $900.

Definitely a scam

the real test is whether they will actually meet you face to face.

yup- what I try to do- as soon as you act interested, they know they have you where you wont walk away..  Thats another thing- its hard to walk away from a deal-even if it isn't a deal.  Have done it though.

there was a 90s kodiak 400 4x4 that the guy wanted $500 from it and I went out and looked at it- just too much that he didnt know (didnt know what was wrong with it, he had parts off of it and 'didnt know where they were')...just a mess.  I walked away

That’s great.  Walk away but hold on to that phone number. You ever k ow when you will come across another Kodak and that guy may still have his.

yep.  If it had been all together and not had parts missing and all torn apart like it was, I probably would have bought it, but I was smelling something fishy about how the guy was doing his work on it- it was under a tarp and torn down.  He didnt have all the parts, and just from looking at it, I could tell there was a lot more under the surface than what he was telling me..  but yea if I came across another kodiak, that bike would be helpful for parts.

yea that was what I was thinking.  At best I let him sit on it for a while and then low ball him... but yea it wont happen- we can still dream tho :embarrassed:

You know what happens is they get a lot of low ball offfers and finally realize that they are high on the price and wind up selling low to the last guy that hits them up!

yup that and if you let them sit on it for long enough, they realize they cant get that much for it and drop price...  Thats what happened with the sportsman 335 that i'm hoping to get- guy had it up for 1600- I let him sit on it for over a month and now he's down to 950.  I'm going out to look at it saturday in a van (no way to get it home) and act non-interested in it but say 'let me think about it'.....then offer 800 again or less if theres other issues with it and go pick it up later...  not worried about it selling since he still has it posted at 1600 lol

You can’t go wrong with lo balling. Worst case is they tell you take a walk. Sometimes they come up a few bucks more then the low ball offer !!! Win. Other times it’s a no go. Bottom line you have nothing to loose by going low.

When checking out all of these polaris make sure to grab ahold of the motor and try to move it. The motor mounts are known for failure and can cause all sorts of issues tearing up the clutches

Hello guys! New to the forum, and fairly new to ATVs. I've driven them, but never owned one. Now I do own one. Just picked it up today. It's a 1999 Yamaha Big Bear 350. It's been through some stuff. The guy I got it from told me the previous owner removed the front diff because he didn't want to replace the half shaft. So it's 2wd, even though it's supposed to be 4x4. Lovely. I can deal with that for now.

More importantly, I need to get it running. The carb needs to be rebuilt. The guy I got it from said he sprayed it all out and it still didn't work. I'm concerned he might have damaged it or not put all the parts back. I was looking at a replacement carb, and the OEM parts is $600. I'd rather not spend $600 if there are any other options. I have seen carbs on Amazon and eBay that are in the $40 - $100 range that say they fit. Anyone have experience with these? I'm going to get a rebuild kit for the current carb just to make sure that won't fix it.

Thats the first thing with it. Secondly, it was completely rewired. I need to find a original wiring diagram so I can put it back how it was, with a key and all. Currently it's wired with just a rocker switch. Any sources for a service manual that would include wiring diagrams?

Thirdly, is the Big Bear 350 a good atv? I picked it up for $700. It does start and run when you spray starting fluid into the air intake, so I am not concerned about the engine being bad. I plan to use it for the farm, running around and carrying things with it like minerals and feed and such. Not really for mudding and things like that. How good is the 99 350?

I am certain I will have more questions as I examine it more, but that's all for now. Thanks in advance for the assistance!

OK, so I'm a boxing fan...anyone watch last night's fight between Manny Pacquiao & Ricky Hatton?

The PacMan is just too fast and too accurate. Floyd Mayweather just announced yesterday that he's coming out of retirement to fight Marquez in July. Maybe we'll get a December fight between Pretty Boy and the PacMan?
So, Manny has convincingly beaten up DeLaHoya (just announced his retirement from boxing) and now Hatton...
