2006 Can-Am Outlander 400 XT Oil presure light is on

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Outlander 2006 400 XT i have replace the startor cover and right after i did that the oil light is on and not turn off, i check the wires and checked the oil level, everything seem to be normal quad is starting without any problem and rev just fine. i did not want to ride it since im not sure if it is faulty sensor or not so just be safe i did not let it run more the a minute or so.

I have read in the owner manual that i need to clean the oil strainer every 200hr unfortunately i never did that, my service manual that i have does not even indicate of such a thing. so i did some search around and it seem like canam split the manual into 3 parts

owner manual

service manual

engine manual

I have the first 2 but i can not find the last one, part number 219100232. If someone can guide me where do i find the oil strainer so i can clean it i will appreciate it.   im going to do an oil pressure test tomorrow to check how many PSI i have, just to make sure.

Thanks

The oil strainer is on the very bottom of the case, just above the frame member. It can be removed/cleaned without engine removal but you DO have to unbolt the engine mounts, remove the exhaust pipe from the head, and very carefully lift it up. The strainer has 5 bolts (8mm socket). I would also VERY highly recommend removing the decompression weight/spring/pin from the end of the camshaft if that hasn't been done. It's a ticking time bomb, and well known over on the can-am specific (only can-am) forum. I just finished getting mine back up and running. It's easy to tell if that has been done, just remove the valve cover and its right there on the right side (behind the cam chain/gear).

You may clean the oil strainer at the base of the engine case without removing it, but you'll need to remove the engine mount bolts, remove the exhaust pipe from the head, and carefully lift the engine up. Five 8mm socket bolts secure the strainer. Since this is a recognized problem with Can-Am vehicles, it is strongly advised that you also remove the decompression weight, spring, or pin from the end of the camshaft. If it has been completed, remove the valve cover and check the right side behind the cam chain and gear.

Correct,in that if it's the oil,I had a bike a few years back ,when you cranked it up oil light would come on checked everything then one day I cranked it turned off then back on oil light went off.  At this point knew it was a short of some kind traced down all wires found short behind light ,wires had rubbed together and would touch as soon as you started.  Just a note that anything can be the cause behind light on. Like my grandfather use to say hope for the best and expect the unexpected.

Hi, I am having issues with my TRX350D fuel pump.  It suddenly stopped running so I have replaced all the fuses and cleaned all the terminals.  I have fitted a new pump, fuel cut-off relay and rectifier.  Still nothing!!  The pump runs when attached to a battery.  The engine will start on the choke and the filter fills with fuel but it will  not rev and dies when the choke is closed. I have power to the relay but nothing at the pump black/white wire when cranking the engine.  Any ideas where to go from here would be very much appreciated!!

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.
