Maybe someone has the answer to correct a long cranking but did start after maybe 10 seconds?

Temp was mid 70's, with ATV not run for maybe a month but on battery maintainer with full bat charge noted.  The atv started, but then died a couple times after repeated attempts.  But when run awhile everything was ok.  Although when starting now I do hear the fuel pump humming but seems to take a few ,"long" seconds before full prime pressure.

Is this typical of a failing fuel pump?

I've priced a replacement fuel pump on eBay for less than $40 so am tempted to simply replace it for good PM.  Just had all covers off so looks really easy to replace.

Any ideas?

I did replace the cforce fuel pump, a very easy 20 min job.  This replacement pump had a decided 'howl' but still ran fine with adequate fuel pressure, no difference in startability or run.  Soooo, put original pump back in and returned the new pump for refund.

Anyway, I'm really impressed with the power and utility these ATVs bring.  Been chainsawing & hauling wood in to spilt for winter wood pile stock.

Not that I'm sold on the Chinese cforce, but was handy to buy from neighbor a while back, very reliable.

However, if I were so well endowed as JEN then I would have bought a Honda Foreman!

It is fuel injected so not sure how automatic choke action works.  Incidentally the atv starts fine after sitting for a day or two in freezing yeps, but the long crank issue happens when not being started for maybe a month.

Maybe should buy a Honda like Jen's?

" Well endowed".LOL..Hey  I worked for that It's painful to drop that ca$h...  I am impressed with the trailer hitch weight.  What is your limit?

OK..  Fuel injection  systems don't have a choke. They have a fuel enrichment setting in their control  program. The  log start after sitting may be from fuel bleeding out when sittinfor an extended period and it takes a bit for the fuel pump to bleed out  air in the system and build  injection pressure.  All  I  can  offer is guesswork  on where to  start troubleshooting  but if  it is otherwise reliable  I wouldn't  worry bout it.  Honda does have a great reputation for reliable machinery.  My  own  ATV is a  1991 Honda Fourtrax 300FW.

No issues after restarting, runs well.  Even after a couple days it starts/runs ok.  The long start issue comes on only after extended sitting over two weeks.  Of course I always keep a battery maintainer connected.

Jen, I have no idea of the wt limit or actual wt on that hitch.  I think there was quite a bit of weight as that wood was still green and heavy.  I ran three loads about a quarter mile down the road where a neighbor had cleared out a bunch of trees for construction building.

Now will start splitting the logs, removing bark and stacking for drying to burn maybe ,3-4 yrs out.

That's a lot of wood to pull and split    My foreman has limited tongue wight ....Don't strain your milk.

Thought you'd get aroused over the well endowed comment!

But the honda foreman is a great machine and worth those big dollars.

BTW  Given you have probably 20 lineal feet of  Oak ; maybe 12 " diameter --- Given men always exaggerate..LOL  i would say you had close to 2,000 lb in that trailer.   Impressive

I helped Grandpa check his fuel injected dodge.  fuel pressure to injectors was 40 psi.  His was low and start issuses until the pressure came up

Hey simple solution ...work her (I assume you refer to your machine is as a female... LOL) more often.   Two weeks and no activity ...WTH!

I really don't think it does as this system is fuel injected, for which I presume the pressurized fuel line feeds directly to the fuel injector.

I see your point that a fuel bowl will go dry over time, from evaporation or leakage then take longer to refill?

No fuel  bowl on  fuel injected systems. Normally  gas engines  use a high pressure fuel pump (40  psi  or more) to  feed the injectors directly.  Carburator   fuel  pumps  run around 7 psi.  to  fill  the fuel  bowl.  Carbs work on a vacuum  system rather than a pressure one.  I strongly suspect when it is sitting for a few days the fuel  bleeds out of the line, possibly from an unnoticed  small  leak.  If  some air can enter the line it could cause an  air lock and take a bit to  clear. It takes a moment  for the fuel to compress the air in the line and build pressure. The injectors only open  for the time the  control  program  says  it normally needs  so  it can take  several cycles to  bleed the air out and actually deliver fuel to the cylinder(s)

In guess if the line drained empty it could take a while ..pulses of the injector...to get all the air out and have fuel ubder pressure to the injector.  Sunn is probably Randy celebrating Valentines Day innfront of his Fireplace on a bear skin rug....LOL   could not resist that shade!

Well......still working with the long crank issue.  The other day after not running the Cforce for a few days, it exhibited the same issue by taking a few seconds of continuous cranking and did start/run for maybe two seconds but died almost as quick.  With the key still on I did not hear the fuel pump run, so turned the key off then immediately back on and pressed the start button then the engine fired and ran normally.  This old girl sure likes the attention.

Hmmm, maybe a long crank is ok in some instances?

It  may be the fuel pump is getting worn  and binding when  first turning on, I'm not sure because I  don't have any experience with FI  quad motors but I would think the fuel pump should run steady to pressurize the fuel system when the key is  on. Do you have easy access to the fuel pump relay? If  you  can hear it click on and the pump doesn't start right away, it is possible the contacts in the relay have a bit of corrosion  and don't  close properly. If that's the case, turning off and  back  on right away  can  make the close ..  If key is on and  no  pump sound, try tapping the relay and see it that makes it start..

The pump does run for a few seconds every time the key is turned on.  In this case I just discussed, the pump ran it's usual time until fully pressurized when they key was turned on.  Then depressed the start button and the engine turned over a few times, started then stopped and no hum from the fuel pump so I'm assuming sufficient pressure remaining in the system?  Then turned the key off then back on and the fuel pump ran again for normal time so I'm assuming the relay is ok.

When the pump stops try tapping on the relay and see if it starts again.

Usually  if it is a bit of corrosion causing the stop  once started  they  usually continue though..  I  have a well pump  I  have to  clean the points on its relay  occasionally because  of the  no start at times problem..  Different  equipment but similar problem  possible

Hi guys, I have a 2004 big bear 400. Last winter while plowing the driveway, I heard a loud pop from the left side of the engine. It continued to run as I looked for leaky fluid, but then died shortly after backing it up and won’t start now. The oil light comes on when I try to start it, no noise or anything else.
No blown fuses that I can find.

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.
