My rear brake is stuck. When I try to go forwards or backwards the brake stays engaged and squeals.

I searched and found out that the brake lines get dirty and need to be greased up...I will give that a shot as soon as I can.

It seems as though the handle bar rear brake is really loose but I couldn't find anywhere to tighten it down.

I don't know if these two things are related - any ideas???

So I took a look at the rear brake today...

The problem must be up at the handlebar brake where the tension can be adjusted. The actual brake lever has a lot of play (it's loose) and the metal shroud around the brake line is not connected to the silver nut that I'm guessing controls the tension.

I could pull back on the metal piece in the rear to get the brake to disengage, then just use the front brake and I could at least drive it.

Hello.

So many ATV bike with drum rear brakes do what you are describing.

go to the back of the bike.

look behind the rear wheel.

you will see a metal lever with 2 cables attached to it with adjusting screws and springs.

this lever pivots via a shaft that activates your rear brake shoes.

it is this shaft that is the number 1 problem with the rear brake on the Eiger.

if your problem is this shaft grab hold of it with your hand and push and pull it, it should move by hand with not too much pressure. if it is stuck it will not move at all!!!!

dirt gets in to this shaft via the out side and seazes the shaft. thus sticking the rear brake on.

you have to pull the whole right wheel and drum appart, take the lever off and punch out the little shaft and clean it all up. grease it all up and put it back in.

some people have this happen to them once or twice a year, and other guys it never happens to.

I mostly see it on dedicated farm ATV's where they are always in the mud.

then there is a very slim chance that it is your foot brake lever.

once again grab it and see if it moves. when they are stuck they feel like they have been weilded on!!!

you have to pull the right inner foot well off and foot peg etc... and take foot brake lever off and clean it up.

this some times can be sooooooooo hard.

and often ends up being a big fight with a Oxy tourch and big metal levers!!!

even to the point of braking out the mount from the frame (which is not that bad because then you can push it out in a press and just weld the part back in to the frame)

some peole have also punched the foot brake lever out with a long punch from the other side of the bike.

i wish you all the best with it!

I hope that it ends up just being a stuck cable or miss adjustment of the cables. but most likely it will be the rear lever or the foot lever.

Howdy ya'll. I am working ona 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125. It was in rought shape when I received it and I am working through issues as they pop up. The quad had been sitting for years. I was able to get her running again, but I need your help with the following issue:
I don't trust the transmission yet and I don't want to make problems any worse. So, I haven't pushed things hard at all. Low rpms, less than 5mph in reverse.

      Nuetral: Runs as expected
Reverse: She seems to be driving fine at slow speeds. Going into reverse at idle is fine, coming out of reverse back into neutral won't work (the shifter is just stuck). As soon as I turn off the quad, I am able to shift around without any issue.
Forward: It slips. It seems to only transfer power to the wheels on a smooth surface and going slightly downhill. When shifting into forward at idle, there is a clacking sounds during the transition. Shifting back to nuetral works just fine.

Other Notable Symptoms: There was old oil in the vbelt and when I was tuning the carb, it starting blowing out of the CVT cooling vent at the front of the quad. Made quite a mess. There is positive crankcase pressure due to piston blowby, that I have not decided whether or not I am going to fix (customer budget dependant).  Since the oil was old, much darker than the new oil that is in the crankcase, I am thinking it seeped past a bad seal while it was sitting for years. The oil that was in it when I first got it had gas in it.

Thoughts: I am thinking maybe there is an issue with the clutch. I worry about the old oil intermingling with the dry centrifugal clutch. I was thinking my next step would be to take the cover off of the clutch and inspect it.

Let me know what you all think. Any advice and ideas is greatly appreciated. This is only the 3rd quad I have worked on and I have a lot to learn.

      Hi all,
Looking for some help on a starter/bendix issue. Can Am outlander 450 2017. While cranking to start, the starter spins and engages into the ring gear. After a few seconds the bendix retracts while still spinning and there is no damaged teeth on the drive pulley.

I've been hunting for a rebuild kit or aftermarket replacement without success. Any tips? The OEM replacement is too rich for my blood.
