1988 Yamaha Blaster questions

It seems like ive got a million questions about quads in general, and the Blaster in particular. A couple years ago, my friend and I would go out and explore the Nevada desert. Him on his Polaris 700 quad and me on my WR450 bike. Todays question is will my Blaster be able to do things like long rides, go camping etc ( not worried about fuel range)or will this type of quad be almost limited to tracks and desert race course operating?

Hey John, the first thing that comes to my mind because I love all that camping and stuff...is racks, to tie down your stuff. The blaster is a sport quad. Sure you can take it camping and some long rides...but if I remember correctly, that is a 2 stroke and air cooled. So depends really on the ride and climate you are in. A four stroke utility quad is more meant for a long ride...usually liquid cooled with a fan, racks, 4WD...

yeah, thats what I thought. Ive gone ahead and ordered a cooler rack for the rear but until I buy another workhorse quad, i want to know I really like this quad stuff. Besides, for that I have my Jeeps!

Your Blaster will be an excellent all around machine for everyday trail riding and such. Given the hot temps where you live, I would be most concerned with keeping the engine cool. There are liquid cooled heads available. You may want to consider changing to a cooler spark plug. Also, the higher octane fuel you use, the cooler your machine will run. This link is to a site that sells a water cooled head system. The ultimate setup would be to get ahold of a DT200, they were never sold in the U.S. but they were sold in Canada. They use the same bottom end and piston as a Blaster, but it has a liquid cooled, power valve cylinder. They made alot more power too.
