2008 Sportsman 500 EFI w/ key on, no lights/ won’t start… has new battery? Need help

Recommended Posts

Electrical switches don't work when the contacts get too dirty. I can't tell you how many times I have fixed someones power windows or lights/blinkers just by taking the switch apart and cleaning the contacts inside. If all the wiring seems ok, and power is getting to the key switch, but not coming out of it, try taking it apart and cleaning it up, or, just replace it. If power is coming out of the switch, check for power on the low current trigger wire at the solenoid. If there is power, the problem lies in the starter or solenoid. If there isn't power, then the problem is in the wire between the solenoid and the key switch. Good luck.

They could be under the hood too. Sometimes the protective wrapping gets water inside and corrodes the hell out of them. I belive there are three of them, 2 run the electrical system and the third one works the 12 acc plug.

They look like this...

20 amp breaker goes to the ignition switch and the other 20 amp breaker to the fan switch.

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

I have a 2016 Arctic Cat 500 and recently noticed some oil leaking on the engine block to the right of the oil filter. It's near two metal lines going in and out of the engine block. I think one of the lines is called an engine oil line. I have a photo I'm going to try and attach. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to start tearing into the engine if I don't have to. I think maybe a gasket or something blew around one of these lines. The ATV runs fine otherwise. Doesn't overheat or anything.
