Thundercat 1000 Bearing Issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 Thundercat 1000. Last summer at less than 1000 miles I had a bearing go out and with it took out half the bottom casing. My repair shop found that this was of no fault of mine and yet, Cat will not warranty any of this work. The bill on this is well over $4500 and I don't think it's worth it. I am VERY disappointed with the Cat warranty service. I own a lot of Cat, my whole family rides Cat ATV's and snowmobiles...until we start trading them in for a brand that will actually warranty their product and care about their loyal consumers. I am so disappointed with Cat on this situation that I will NEVER buy another Cat ATV or snowmobile.

That sucks, I always hate to hear stories like that. I would call everyone I could at AC and complain until they hang up on you, then call back and complain some more, this time with lots of yelling. If you can't get them to back their product, tell them off and move on. $4500 is alot of money, you could save a ton of that by buying the parts yourself from an online parts dealer, and doing the work yourself, or have someone you know and trust do it for you. A dealer will over charge you for parts and their labor costs are ludicrous. Good luck, I hope you can find a reasonable solution to this problem.

Have you tried going over the dealers head. There should be an AC phone number for complaints, if the complaint is legitament they will contact the dealer themselves. Then watch the dealer jump into action! Good Luck. Arctic Cat complaints line is 218/681-4999. This number should also be found in your warranty information.

Ya, this really sounds more like a seriously legitimate complaint, not just someone whining that their machine broke. I don't see how that should have happened to such a new machine, I would be furious myself. It seems rather obvious that this was some kind of manufacturer defect, the thing was probably cracked and ready to go when you bought it. Good luck, I hope you can get this resolved without spending too much of your own money.

Sorry I suck at these forums so if you see this submitted under update status, my bad. Anyhow this is a new shock for a 96 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 it fits my 96 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 perfectly. Little narrower are the bottom than the original but everything else is perfect. I extended it to almost a half in from full extension because I’m pushing 350 pounds.  It rides and hold me well. So if any of y'allRace driven shock. have been looking for one and didn’t want to do the research here it is.

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

I have a 2016 Arctic Cat 500 and recently noticed some oil leaking on the engine block to the right of the oil filter. It's near two metal lines going in and out of the engine block. I think one of the lines is called an engine oil line. I have a photo I'm going to try and attach. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to start tearing into the engine if I don't have to. I think maybe a gasket or something blew around one of these lines. The ATV runs fine otherwise. Doesn't overheat or anything.

Hello, what is the best method for installing bearings into their race? I've set one in place and tapped it down until it was metal on metal. Is that sufficient? Surely it's not supposed to go into the race until flush? Also. does the coil spring on the seal go into carrier bearing housing not facing out? Thanks! 🙂 Seal goes in until flush correct?
