2001 Polaris Scrambler 90 - Bogs On Hills

Recommended Posts

If my son goes up a hill this things seems to bog down and wont rev up. If i power brake it its will spin the wheels and start to dig a trench then loses power for a second or 2 then regains it etc. I would think it would keep at the power band or maybe not. I took off the pipe and ran it straight for a few minutes to test exhaust and it behaved basically the same. On a flat or semi flat it will do almost 32 and hold there forever but again go to the bottom of a hill on a logging road and start out not reved up it just wont rev up at all can damm near walk as fast up the hill. What should I be checking for?

How would the drive belt cause the engine to loose rpms? Its a 2001 scrambler 90 2 stroke. I would think it should rev to rev limiter and stay at that limit as long as throttle stays presses until it blows up if one would hold it wide open long enough. Can someone explain I guess I dont get this 2 stroke thing. Is it sorta like a chainsaw when the chain is pinched it wont rev?

Did you ever figure this out. Mine is doing the exact same thing. Sometimes I can hold the brakes and throttle up and the front wheels will come of the ground. But just as you have described take off under a load, such as up hill it just won't rev up. If I can ever get the RPM's up, it runs great, probably 30+ miles an hour for as long as you hold the throttle down.

Perhaps you are running it to hard and you are to big or heavy for it. I mean it is only a 90 cc engine

Nope. Finally took the carb apart and it had a lot of junk in it. Cleaned it up and it's running like a big dog. I did take the advice of one of the earlier post about covering up hte breather tube intake and it took off prettiy good (inital troubleshooting only). I think that the carb could not pull enough fuel through the jets and when you cover the intake, the vacuum increased in the carb and forced more fuel through the jets. It's not like new, but it's close enough now.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

My 2014 750 king quad stalls sometimes when I touch or turn the handlebars, the problem has gotten worse,my machine has 475 miles and is only trail ridden,I have a new factory battery and i have 14.2 volts when the quad is running and 13.3 on the battery when not running, also using a multimeter there is no change in volts when turning the bars until it does stall,If I pull the 40 amp power steering fuse it will not stall.......I've been told its the ECU,Hate to buy one if thats not the problem, but its kinda leaning towards that,,,,,need some opinions.

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.
