sounds like dirty connections. starter wire from relay/solenoid is good, so i'd check everything back up to the handlebars ... OR the relay may be bad altogether

Just a thought, and I have not read the entire manual yet but for my "new to me" 1990, the bike has to be in neutral to start.

If yours is similar, and it is in neutral but nothing happens, I'm thinking there might be a neutral safety switch similar to a car that has gone bad.

Just tossing out ideas.

on my 91, sitting on the bike, it is on the left hand side, on top of the tranny, about a foot behind your heel on the footpegs. i had trouble with mine too, a bad connection or broken wire, can't remember now ...

The Hop-Up: You may be saying to yourself, “that’s a chick bike,” and you’re right. But honestly, it’s so much more than that. It’s one badass bike. http://www.quadmagazine.com/quad/features/article/0,24942,1587044,00.html

I just got a 1991 Yamaha Moto 4 for my son and I am looking for a service repair manual. I know that the timing chain needs replaced.

      Hi everyone,
I have a question, if the starter clutch gear looks fine but is still not working correctly then all I should need to replace is the one way bearing, right?
      thanks,
