Hi All,

Newbie here as well as ATV ownership. We just "inherited" my wife's grandmother's Yamaha Big Bear 350. Its a 1990.

Its been sitting in her Dad's barn unused since even before he passed away a couple years ago.

I actually drove it way back when my wife and I started dating. I think her Dad was seeing if the "city kid" had any "metal"!

Anyway, it was very hard starting and would not stay running at all. Trailered it home from Vermont and got to work on it. Check the pic of what I found when I pulled the carb apart!

I've never seen anything quite like that! LOL.

Well, since that cleaning, I've cleaned it fairly well, changed all the fluids, fixed some minor issues, and learned the difference between ON and RES!

It is now starting right up, idles nicely and moves along pretty good. I was fairly concerned on the engine oil change I did yesterday in finding a good deal of metal shavings in the oil filter and bottom drain plug.

Have no idea how long that was unattended. The engine seems to run nice a smooth, no smoking, odd noises, etc...

Thinking clutch may need servicing. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

btw...great forum here! Seems like tons of good info!!

hello and welcome here ...

nice find !! i wouldn't worry about the oil and shavings, who knows if it's the first oil change? plus the age of the bike, if it's running good now and shifting well, i wouldn't do anything really except ride it .... there is a clutch adjustment on the right side, while sitting. looks like a slotted screw inside a nut. in the yamaha forum, there is a thread for manuals there, post #3 has the service manual for your bike ...

Thanks for the info!

Way ahead of you on the service manual! Finding that was my reason for registering here!

Love finding service manuals for my projects! I've already scanned it a few times and read several sections.

My plan was to run it for a few miles, then do another oild change to validate she's clean. I've got several questions regarding routine maintenance conradictions I'm seeing but I'll post those in a new post specific to the question.

Welcome. now that the carb is clean I have shared this before there is a product called ethanol shield wal-mart sells it. Sta-bil also makes a gas treatment for the ethanol. Ethanol is a big trouble maker for our quads & any thing like lawn mowers, chain saw, weed eaters etc. In just 1 season I had a fuel line fail on my weed eater the shop said it was from the ethanol thats added to gas. Our local motorcycle shop stated the same thing. I guess it effects the compelet fuel system but on my weed eater it caused the lines to harden and crack. Some station sell gas without ethanol we have 2 but it's 3.90 gal. and only mid grade 90 octaine is sold without ethanol here in west georgia. My ethanol shield was 2.00 & treats 10gallons.

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE CARBURATOR ON MY 1992 BIG BEAR 350, SO I ORDERED A NEW CARB FROM EBAY.  ACCORDING TO THE WRITE-UP IT WAS A GOOD FIT FOR BIG BEARS FROM 1988 TO 1996.  WHEN I REMOVED MY ORIGINAL CARB I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEW CARB MY CARB HAD TWO THROTTLE  CABLES THE NEW CARB ONLY HAD ONE CABLE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THIS CARB WORK ON MY TWO CABLE THROTTLE?

1996 4x4 Timberwolf rearend width. Can someone with some knowledge of these machines answer this question for me please. Are all 4x4 timberwolves this narrow in the rearend? These tires are so close the right one actually rubs the muffler.  Thinking about seeing if there are any spacers out there for it. I need at least an inch more clearance.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

      Dave
