  2. I just picked one of these up. Cant wait to use it.
  3. Last week
  4. The stock driver seat cushion is separated at a seam. I took the seat apart and found that the material has torn and cannot be re-stiched. I'm trying to find a replacement seat. Any suggestions? Hoping for a used seat but couldn't find one on Ebay.
  5. Not sure which problem you have idling or smoking but Smoke when you let off the gas, could be faulty valve guide seals, but shouldnt have been the case in 2013 it was new, unless they came with faulty seals.
  6. Not idling ? Or dieing in use, or flooding the spark-plug ? The original post had a series of symptoms. If it's not idling I'd try adjusting the idle mixture as a first step. That may cure the problem and be all that's needed, or it may be that the idle adjustment is unresponsive or needs a lot of adjusting one direction to get it to idle, either of which would indicate problems in the carb. Depending how it adjusted and how much it needs we might get some idea where the problem is.
  7. Curious if you remember what the problem was? Got my boy a 2012 and it's doing the same thing. Ughhhh..
  8. Thats good you got the new switch working the starter, the brown wire you were talking about earlier generally goes to the lights you might check that to make sure its in good shape.
  9. New OEM switch in place and starter is working well. Headlights are dead. I'll get to that tomorrow. Brakes and master cylinder are next.
  10. Thats not all bad at least some activity out of it, it sounds to me like the sensor that send the speedo information is shorted out. You might locate that and make sure it has a good ground.
  11. The speedo lights up but only shows gear position, high beam and fuel level. I have taken it apart and i could not see anything wrong.
  12. Have you tried putting voltage directly to speedo to see if it will come on, if so then you know it works and you can start tracing wires to see where the fault is, if not it just might be an internally shorted speedo. You could try taking it apart and see if the circuits are coroded and clean them up and see if it helps. Just some thoughts..
  13. Thanks everyone i just have one more problem. The speedo is blank so i don't know mileage or the hours. If i replace the speedo with a second hand one will it read the mileage of my bike or of the previous bike?
  14. I think it's built into us to want to make something good.. It's what the religions are all about.. Explaining "creation", when we think of it as a verb. We're all the product/result of creation(v), and it's what keeps us alive and prosperous. It's an integral part of us this"creation" business.. Of course there's always someone (not you Gw) that takes things a bit too far and want's a bit too much, and then the trouble starts.. haha
  15. It looks fairly complete, whenever i get a parts bike i look it over and say this is not bad and end up fixing it and turning it into a runner also, but thats what i like to do take junk and make it good again, i think its the challenge, not necessarily that i need another runner.
  16. I wish there were lids for those small storage boxes on the racks though! I just need one more
  17. Thanks folks for all the wonderful info. Appreciate you two always chiming in. Next time I'll know what to do . Check out the parts bike I scored today !
  18. Anti seize should work at temp. Graphite powder mixed with oil, or black grease, or copper based anti-seize are all pretty anti-seize and heat resistant. I mostly just use a black grease to lube those bolts. It's got Moly something..
  19. That would be good to do that every so often, i have been putting ani seize on everything including those bolts, dont know if it actually works because of the heat but couldnt hurt.
  20. Yep, it sat outside for years. It's been "down" for at least 5 years.
  21. And has it fixed the back-firing ? Those nuts at the head join, some owners manuals say that as a matter of routine maintenance they should be loosened and re-tightened. It's only about once a year they say to do it. It's probably in recognition of the fact those nuts seize.

  23. Sounds like me Gw.. Old age and lack of use.. Now where's that shovel...
  24. Yup. A squirt of CRC or WD40 once every now and again will keep the new switch working.. if it's a genuine Kawa switch anyway. Non-genuine, perhaps not. Silicon though can give off fumes that corrode, and it's likely to keep the water that does inevitably seep in trapped in. Silicon is awful stuff !!
  25. Good point, but i think you will be OK just keep it covered out of the weather, its taken 22 years to get this bad, and probably sat directly out in the weaather for many of those years.
  26. Thats good, it may have just been sticking a little not moving freely.
  27. Ok. Things like to be used.. They get rusty and unreliable sitting around.
