It might be too high to park your truck over. It has a ramp to get over the base structure.

I see a Warn 424 disconnect from a '99 300 TRX coming up on eBay

Mark I'm back. I stripped my 300 for parts. Good Warn disconnect, wheels, winch. I bought a 2002 Rancher 350 ES with a Warn disconnect that had the cable ripped off an that left it stuck in 2WD. I removed the Warn driveshaft and the unit functioned when I cut off the bunged up cable. I don't want to take the cable and control off the 300 unit, but Warn cable kits don't seem to be available either. I am thinking of making my own cable with a control lever or such to operate it.

I finally gave up - selling for parts Warn 242 and Warn 2000 winch solid frame and drives.

If I can find a head with cam and cover, I may open up the clutch side and look for more damage. Thanks for keeping me company on this project. Dan (Tahj)

Just for fun the starter reduction gear that turns the motor over for timing check - the one that the allen socket is on - goes into the main case so I would have to split the cases to change the shaft to time the engine. Anyone want to buy a parts machine? It does have the WARN 242 front shaft on it. How's your day going?

Today's surprise. pulled the valve cover off and the cam and head are chewed up. If this was from low - no oil then anything is possible. Just for fun the socket in the starter gear to turn over the engine broke.

I guess tomorrow I'll take the lid off and see. Not looking forward to going into the clutch case tho. Been busy looking at how to videos on YouTube. D-Ray Smith has some good videos that don't give you motion sickness. Four Wheeler Doctor is good too. Hand held cell phones are the worst.

Mark So much for chinese carburetors. I swapped the carburetors - same stuff different day. I poked the cold weather primer and got fuel back into the airbox when I cranked it. After long cranking it idled a bit,then quit. I stuffed a rag in the airbox carb inlet and it blew it back out.

Thank you Mark I bought it not running, did set the valves and cleaned the carb - still not running. I have a Yamaha 660 project that I did have to change the chain and cam timing gear along with a bunch of other stuff - it was no fun so I was wondering about the 300. The 300 timing chain looks worse to do. Seems like I'm not the great mechanic I thought I was. Rephilracing suggested that I do a compression check. It has no front deck and the gas tank was off, so I took the carb off the engine intake for the compression check Compression was 150. I had cleaned the spark plug previously and neither time I took the plug out was it wet, couldn't smell fuel in the exhaust either. I poured a little raw gas into the intake and it started right up. I ordered an Amazon carb to check my theory, then I'll go back and rebuild the original carb properly. It's nice to know these run with old timing chains, they have a good reputation for toughness.

Thanks, but compression could be many things. How does it affect timing?

I just added a 1999 Honda 300 Trx FW to my problems. Indicator lights work, has spark, carb been cleaned, valves set. Cranks - no start. Is there any way to check the timing chain without pulling the valve cover and looking at the marks on the timing gear. The timing chain is behind EVERYTHING in the right case. Tahj

Guess that didn't work can some one open it or tell me how to post it properly

I have had a few 150 Etons. They are still running and parts are available online. They are not fast and only 2 wheel drive but they get me (78 yrs old) thru the woods (on trails).

Is that flex clear coat available ?

Damn. That access is great - wide open, not going in thru out of reach service caps.

Valve setting tool didn't fit my '05 Grizzly 660 - not enough clearance for the socket part into the access hole. The exhaust valves are not handy to get to either.

Frank I would think it might affect friction, but since it is a wet clutch, probably no odor.I should heve thought of the rear brakes tho

but no friction odor?

Thanks Frank I believe it was there before, but I'll back off the rear brakes and see what happens. How would an auto oil affect the Honda clutch ?

I bought a 2003 Recon from a kid that beat it – all plastics cracked etc, When I replaced the rear brake the inside – axle, rear oil - were clean and in good shape, so I think Honda won the kid vs quad battle. It shifts a little clunky (I made the adjustment) and after riding for a while I get a hot friction material smell I wonder if he used the wrong oil and if any damage was done.
