Thats a great story Mech, thanks for sharing. Roots are important thats for sure, coincidence, destiny, or just a sense of being in the right place, who knows, but you made it home and as a young man, your children will always remember this as their home. The beach sounds nice and it would be for a while, but you can only fish so much, anything gets repetitive after a while, then you will be ready to go home and work on some quads. I have lived where i am now for 30 years, longer than i have ever lived anywhere, but my fathers place will always be home, we have been there since the 60s, very fond memories of working on all our old cars and the rice burners we rode in those days with him, you never knew what he would bring home next for us to work on. I will keep it as long as i live, too many memories, some things are worth more than money. I am from an old family also there is me, i have a brother, and one cousin, my brother and cousin have no children, mine are all girls, kind of sad, but the family name dies with us.

Thanks Mech! I knew you would know, i have not worked on this one much. This was actually my fathers, he bought it in 1988 to ride my kids around through the woods when they were litlle. He died a few years back, we still maintain his place and acerage and the quad is still there. My brother just called and said he couldnt get it going, he actually lives in California, we double team taking care of the place. i havent really been around it enough lately to keep it maintained, and my brother, he expects to turn the key and it crank, if it doent hes done with it, no mechanical skills whatsoever. So im going down to help him with it. I suspect as you said the battery is weak and thats why it wont start, but it has always made that clunking noise on starting it sounds like something is breaking in there and then it starts and runs flawlessly, in all these years the carb has never been replaced or even cleaned to my knowledge.

I have a 1987 TRX 250, it has been very reliable except for this starting issue. I have replaced the starter and gears numerous times and still having problems. I think the last time was maybe 2 years ago and this Quad is used very little. Starter works fine, when you go to start it it goes clunk, clunk, clunk, blah and usually starts. If it doesnt start after blah, it not going too. Like i said earlier, last time i replaced the starter and gears and virtually no change except it would start everytime, but it always sounds like something broke right before it starts. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with the 250. One other note, the kickstarter does not work, and never has as long as i have owned it, could that have anything to do with it.

2017-2020 Polaris RZR 570 / S 570 Service Manual

Fuseable links, dont you just love them! I would suspect that the one with 4 wires is the bad one, there are generic fuseable links available. I would definately try to repair your existing wiring harness even if you have to run a wire to the fuse box and use a conventional fuse, there should be an empty slot available. I understand, i like my stuff factry also, but when it comes to replacing the entire harness i may opt out and repair it. -

I do remember on one of the newer models there is an access panel under the drivers seat for access to the engine, they were some fuses there. -

The fuses on the 2017 are under the center of the dash, i think the older ones were behind the drivers seat. -
I have noticed that part being discontinued on a lot of bikes my only conclusion is that most of the air filters are internally supported now and that part is really not needed

Great any parts available

You did good! I had bought my box off ebay for 50 then i didnt notice i had this other piece missing before i ordered and it didnt come with it, so I had to get it i think maybe 25 so now im into it for 75 and i could get the whole assembly for 120, new . Wish i would have done that.
-
Good point, I think you will be glad you replaced it, when you get it all installed engine may run better, glad to hear you still have the original kei hin carb
-
Yeah i have seen that, you have to run a drill through to clean up poor casting quality.
-
The last one i bought had the air box missing, i opted to replace it for several reasons. The pod filters are not water tight and thats not a good thing on an ATV. The CVK carb works best with OEM filters, which is why they would need to be rejetted. Pod filters are not cheap and neither are proper OEM jets, so if you add up those costs its cheaper to get the airbox. Or it was in my case, i found one on Ebay for about 50.00.

Nice to know that , never used one of their cylinders. Thanks for the info!

From model year 1998 until 2010, all VIN stamps can be found on the frame in the front left wheel well.
-
Never seen one before, it is a cute little thing, looks chinese.
-
If its newer than 97 it will have a17 digit vin, the 10th character is the year. If its older than 97 it will have a 7 digit vin.

Suzuki Eiger 400 2004 Rear Wheels Locked (Next Restoration Project)
Gwbarm replied to Gwbarm's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
Just about all our fuel is 10% ethynol. You can get what they call 100% gas, it cost about 1.00 more per gallon, but i use it in all my small engines. So all your gas is still pure, no ethynol, thats a good thing, and yes Ethynol it is very reactive and does permanent damage to carburetors. -

Suzuki Eiger 400 2004 Rear Wheels Locked (Next Restoration Project)

Agreed! I had been using it on prime since i got it, and got to where it wasnt getting enough fuel flow on prime and decided it was time. It would start in the run setting but wouldnt keep up. After tearing it apart i see why, im suprized it ran at all. -

Havent been doing much to to the eiger lately with holidays approaching and other projects in the works. Its beeen running quite well with the aftermarket carb i installed, just havent got around to reinstalling the OEM yet. Not even sure what brand it is, it was just a new one i had floating around. I did delete the OEM vacum petcock on the 2007 it was in pretty bad shape and i didnt trust it. Went with the cheapest one i could find on Amazon, non vacum operated. I feel like i have more control of the fuel this way, but maybe just old and set in my ways, Nahh couldnt be that. I also checked the throttle cable housing on it to make sure i didnt have any spiders living in there, very impressed with how clean and new looking it was, for a very abused bike, that has been treading swamps for many years. I know better than to buy one with a snorkel on it, but thats what showed its ugly face at the time, and i had a weak moment. -

Blue sounds like good spark, but doesnt explain why your spark checker worked with the other bike and not with this one, maybe try a new plug cap sometimes they develop unwanted added ressistance.
