If you have to keep your thumb on the throttle to restart it, it's running rich (flooding). The 2 leading causes for what you describe are: 1. The "choke" cable is pulled out of it's plastic socket on the carb. Remove the seat and look on the right side about half way back. There are 2 control cables going into the carb. The "choke" cable goes in to a plastic nut on the side of the carb. Make sure it is lined up squarely and fully seated into the carb. 2. The needle valve or float is bad. You'll have to remove and disassemble the carb to fix it. Before attempting removal I'd strongly suggest you download the service manual for your ATV. I also found the 96-98 Polaris manual very helpful with these carbs. They use the same ones. oxidized_black is a great help finding downloads. onlinecycleparts.com has the best prices and flat rate shipping ($7).

Do a Google search for Chinese ATV parts. There are a few places now carrying parts for these orphans. Maybe one of them can steer you to a manual. I noticed last week Cabelas and Menards even sell them now. Anybody seem them in The Peoples Republic of Walmart?

The fuel filter will cause no problems. I bought my 1993 Suzuki LTF-4wd new and the dealer had installed one. I didn't even know it was there until it plugged up and needed replacing 19 years later. No clamps needed because the pressure is so low. Note the directional arrow on the filter.

When you change the oil and filter on those small Suzuki motors about 1/3 of a quart remains in the bottom of the crankcase. I was told you have to split the case to drain that last .3 qts. I think I came up with a better method. With a frame hoist or engine hoist or two big friends lift the front of the ATV up until the bike is vertical. That remaining oil will drain out the filler hole. Be sure to shut the fuel petcock before doing it or gas will run out the top of the carb because you are unseating the neeedle valve. Mine had water in the oil and I changed it 3 times, but it still remained grey. After lifting it once the oil was clean.

The 91 has over 6000 miles and was a wreck when I bought it. Taking the carb off and just cleaning the fuel bowl area seems to cure most problem.
