What is wrong with My Mojave cannot figure it out

the mojave is a 1999 it will start up if you kick it forever backfires and then dies after the motor warms up it has gas running back into the air filter i cleaned the carb do i need to just rebuild it or does it sound more like it needs a valve adjustment if so does anybody have step by step instructions on how to adjust them

if it has gas running into the air box then i would check to make shure the carb is not the problem ... sounds like the float is not shutting and stopping the gas flow when the carb bowl fills up...

That's my guess that the float is stuck. But it should run out an overflow if it's stuck.

agreed also...but what was it doing before you cleaned the carb? Was it getting gas in the airbox then too?...I have a copy of the service manual from an online source if you need it.....send me a PM if you want it and good luck AND...welcome to QC!!!

i never see anything comming from the overflow and it was like this when i bought how do i unstick the float i already had it off soacked it in carb clean

thanks for the replies hopefully i can get it going i thought it just needed cleaned but when i put it back on nothing changed still doing the same thing i have never tried to adjust i have know idea how

the needle valve may not be sitting in there right when you put the float assembley back on... i had the same problem when i put the rebuild kit in my big bear...

When you had it off did you take it apart or did you just have it soaking in carb clean? If it was just soaked in carb clean you wouldn't have solved a stuck float. To fix a stuck float it will require taking the bowl off.

Taking the bowl off isn't advisable if you have no clue what your doing in there. If you have no clue how to do the work found someone that does know about the float.

i took the bowl off took jets out float off cleaned everything really good put it all back together i have cleaned many of 2 stroke snowmobile carbs this is my first try at a quad is it different and how would i get the seat to sit in there right

i thought the same, but the little wire clip the needle valve hooks onto only goes one way and easily binds. i had to look at mine 3 or 4 times and play around with it before i got it right with smooth action with the floats...

When you have the carb off and the bowl off. Have the float and needle installed and hold it upright like it would be on the quad. Now push the float up and make sure the needle is moving up into the carb. And when you let go of the float the needle should come back down.

The needle may not be stuck but maybe the little tab on the float needs adjusted. It may not be pushing the needle up far enough to stop the flow of fuel.

it just sounds like the float is stuck and the fuel will keep running without it being seated properly
