I could use some help. I have a 2000 Yamaha bear tracker. The bike has no spark. I went through the entire harness, even removed it and toned out all wires for shorts etc. changed the coil, cdi, relays by the battery etc. I have had my eye on the stator coil but tested it for voltage and got voltage from it. The bike was jump started by a car and also welded on. I heard that was not good.   My question I guess is will a bad stator still produce voltage but no spark ?

thaks.

Did you  check the  pickup  coil that  works with the stator to  produce the  pulses  necessary  for the  spark?. .The  stator  not only produces  the  voltage pulse the pickup  coil uses for the spark  circuit , but also  the voltage  for  charging the battery. The  stator and /or the pickup  could be  bad  and still  produce some voltage.

I  wouldn't think they'd interfere  with the  spark.. They  are  part of the charging circuit..  The  pickup  coil  uses  voltage  produced in the stator  to  send a  pulse to the  CDI  at  the  proper point in the  cycle  to  fire the  spark  plug.  The  stator  is producing  a  constant  3 phase  ac  voltage the  regulator /  rectifier changes  to the  12v DC  for the charging system .

Crystal clear now. I tested the stator and the pick up coil. One side is in the paramiters (ohms) the pick up is not. I opened the coil housing for inspection and it looks good no obvious signs of broken wires burnt out etc not that it matters. Ordered the new stator assembly and the  gasket. I can't thank you enough for the input. Let you know how it works out. Meantime I completely re wrapped the harness and reinstalled it. Hoping this is the end! Thanks again.

Big shout out to Quadcrazy and its members. This bike kicks as*!! Took it up to the country to see what it can do and for a two wheel drive bike it's a beast. The bike runs and looks great.

Thaks for the help.

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

Howdy ya'll. I am working ona 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125. It was in rought shape when I received it and I am working through issues as they pop up. The quad had been sitting for years. I was able to get her running again, but I need your help with the following issue:
I don't trust the transmission yet and I don't want to make problems any worse. So, I haven't pushed things hard at all. Low rpms, less than 5mph in reverse.

      Nuetral: Runs as expected
Reverse: She seems to be driving fine at slow speeds. Going into reverse at idle is fine, coming out of reverse back into neutral won't work (the shifter is just stuck). As soon as I turn off the quad, I am able to shift around without any issue.
Forward: It slips. It seems to only transfer power to the wheels on a smooth surface and going slightly downhill. When shifting into forward at idle, there is a clacking sounds during the transition. Shifting back to nuetral works just fine.

Other Notable Symptoms: There was old oil in the vbelt and when I was tuning the carb, it starting blowing out of the CVT cooling vent at the front of the quad. Made quite a mess. There is positive crankcase pressure due to piston blowby, that I have not decided whether or not I am going to fix (customer budget dependant).  Since the oil was old, much darker than the new oil that is in the crankcase, I am thinking it seeped past a bad seal while it was sitting for years. The oil that was in it when I first got it had gas in it.

Thoughts: I am thinking maybe there is an issue with the clutch. I worry about the old oil intermingling with the dry centrifugal clutch. I was thinking my next step would be to take the cover off of the clutch and inspect it.

Let me know what you all think. Any advice and ideas is greatly appreciated. This is only the 3rd quad I have worked on and I have a lot to learn.

      Lorne
