1999 Polaris Sportsman 325 will not start without starting fluid spray

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if I need a fuel pump? I spray carb cleaner into throat and it starts till it burns it off. Last week it took me a long time to start the same way. I got it running and it ran fine. Now it is doing the same thing.

Is this fuel injected or carb? Sounds to me like your choke is either not working or something else with the carb.

I'm assuming when you said it ran fine when it did start, that it REALLY does...consistent idle, no bogs, runs out well. That being said, I would not immediately go to the carb. If it were in my shop, I'd check cranking spark energy, check cranking pressure, adjust valves, and recheck cranking pressure after adjusting valves.

it ended up being air trapped in fuel lines to and from pump. I had forgotten I had put the valve on reserve and it ran dry. Even switching back to a full tank, it needed fuel directly in throttle or fill the tubes at the pump. I took a water bottle and put a small hole in it and kept squirting till the fuel lines refilled with gas.

Glad you got it squared away!

Trying to replace the carburetor on my 2003 Bear Tracker 250. Two brand new carbs in a row from different suppliers.   Both leak fuel out over flow and intake as soon as I turn the gas on. Any ideas. Am I doing something wrong?

So I’ve had this quad for the better part of a month, and it’s been hard to start since the day I bought it. Once it warms up it idles just fine and has plenty of power and starts no problem, but cold it takes 20 seconds minimum of straight cranking to start it.
It’s not really too big of an issue, I’m just curious as to why it takes so long. Earlier today, it took me about 2 minutes of on/off cranking to get it to fire.
i have attached a video of a cold start to show you what I mean.

Hi, I got a check engine light and a diagnostic code 520194 2 and i know it has something to do with throttle voltage out of range
I'd like to know if thats something that can be adjusted ? Or does anybody know what should i test  ?  I just bought this atv and I'm fixing it as its been in an accident.
I also changed throttle leaver as original one was broken and I noticed inside the 4x4 selector assembly there are 2 contacts but I'm not sure if they're suppose to make contact at idle. I found some info online but some are saying they're suppose to touch and some say they're not. I think id depends of the year of the machine but I'm not sure. I'd really appreciate any help that i can get with this
      Thanks
