Yamaha Big Bear 350 Reverse not Working

I have a Yamaha Big Bear 350 and the reverse doesn’t work, it shifts from low to high easily but it won’t go back to reverse. I’m new to this stuff, so I’ll take any help. Any ideas?

Does the shifter feel wrong ? Is it shifting into reverse but not moving ? Have you checked the fluids in the gear case ?

lastly try getting all four wheels off the ground and see if the bike goes into reverse.

It feels fine, but it just doesn’t down in reverse.

Wow great point @Ajmboy i remember this topic! Could very well be just that ! 

I think it was the brake cable  adjustment or the linkage.  One or the other, we had another member that made adjustments and was no longer to get in reverse and he put it back where it was and it was fine. Maybe @Arizona?

It shifts from low to high while not running but when I try to go to reverse it just is stiff like the cable doesn’t move. Should I lower the idle bar and see if that does it?

Yes absolutely and then check the brake cable.  I believe you have to pull the brake for reverse? Check that as well.

Not to sound stupid but which one? Cause the left one which is for the rear I believe, is stuck.

On mine I had to loosen up the foot pedal adjustment, I guess it needed to move more.

I adjusted my rear brakes and that's what caused the problem, after loosening them up 

it worked again, Also had to be in 1st in order to go into reverse. Seemed to be a problem

an each Yamaha I have owned. Just got rid of one and same issues.

Might check with Laval, seems he has some experience with Yamaha and their reverse.

Don’t think I can help on this one. Mine was a 03 and automatic. However on that one you had to depress the foot brake to shift to reverse. There was a locking pin on the foot brake linkage. I deleted that to bypass the brake/reverse thing.
