2001 Yamaha Blaster wont start

Talon

Recommended Posts

i was out riding and i heard a sound that was like a snap and my bike shut off and wouldn't start back up and the only thing that i can visually find wrong is there is a crack in the exhaust. would the crack in the exhaust keep it from starting?? or any other ideas of what it might be

wen u turn the key is the starter trying to turn the engine over or u hear nothing...wat year is the blaster? is it ridden hard? was it like a chain snapping noise? or was it a glunk? has it been serviced lately? also check the oil and tell me if it is black and if it has any metal shavings or anything in it? and if it is full?

its a kick start. but when i kick it it sounds like it wants to turn over. before it would start on the first or second kick each time. i think it an 2001. its been rode fairly easy. kind of like a tree branch snapping. new oil and plug but thats about it. i'll try to get around to draining it tommorrow and check it but it is full i did check that

an engine needs 3 things to start... fuel, air, and spark... so check to see if you have spark and getting fuel... if you have both then i would check your reeds for damage, do a compression test, and a case pressure test... could you tell where the snap sound came from?

there no fuel getting to the spark. reeds look good compression is good. how do i do a case pressure test??? no couldnt tell where the snap came from. could of just been a branch that i ran over right when it died but im not sure

Ok,,,,,So you say you were going over some logs.....???? How about your Float in the Carb got stuck.....You ran your Bowl out of Fuel.....To check this....Turn the Screw at the bottom of the Carb counterclockwise.....if there is fuel in there it will run out......

no i checked and cleaned the carb and its fine

Oil is getting in the air box from crankcase vent tube, I put the two hoses that go to the air box together then something started to smoke on the front of the engine. There is a filter? In the line I blew that out.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

      Greetings,
Have a 88 LT80 that been sitting for a couple years. Bought a new piston, cylinder and head. Installed these, rolled it over and it quickly locks up.  Took carb apart. It was full of what appears to be 2 cycle oil. Cleaned it, but keeps locking up and 2 cycle oil continues to seap from exhaust port.  When i installed new cylinder, I noticed crankcase was full of oil.  I'm now wondering if that oil is what's getting sucked up into cylinder.  Should there be no oil in crankcase?  If that the case, how is crank and rod lubricated?  Sorry, never worked on a 2 stroke. Thanks!
