Nick's 450r starts better than mine does for sure. He gets his started and just walks away while i'm standing there with my throttle open for a min. or two till she gets warm....

But in the summer, its different....doesn't take that much to start her. Have you tried using the choke?? I dont remember you talkin about that...

Mine runs like Nick's. I fire it up and ignore it. I can hear in how it revs when I need to turn the choke off. If I can get it fired up in the cold, I'm golden.

I don't think Nick ever uses his choke. I have to, on occassion...but I hardly ever do because I actually have my choke zip tied closed...it tends to vibrate on during races for some reason...but that's besides the point.

TB, did the guy give you a history lesson on the quad?

I'm also up at 8000+ feet. That has a lot to do with it. When I go to the low lands and ride around 5000 I don't.

I have built a snow plow and a yard trailer out of scap steel from work.

Do u have pictures on the plow.. or any info on the steel u used and how u built the mount.

I used box tubing for the frame work. I had tabs on the frame. But all you need is a piece of flat steel to mount to the bottom of the frame. make a pivot point there. Run the box tubing from there to the plow. Buy a used garden tractor blade. Look how blades are mounted from the dealer to get ideas. I modified mine 4 times before I was happy. I'll try to get some pictures later. I'll start a new thread later.

im still waiting on the nerfss and stuff. but my dad cracked it open to take a look at things, cam chain is loose. ive heard around about a 2002 CRF450 cam chain working, and found one for 10$. might spring for it, and we bought plugs, but havent got the right socket to fit yet.. i think we will have to wait untill monday when my local dealer is open. i cleaned it up though and here are some pics of it. with NOTHING DONE TO IT.

heyyy people...long time no speak.

progress: painted the heat shield...ordered the cam chain last night, its on express shipping. took off the header, sanded it, and everything, paiting it with heat paint. will also paint the muffler.

tommorow, or today for most of you since its so late, i will do the rest of the sanding, prob start the painting on the header..just a question..since its cold. will that have any effect on the paint drying? what if i put a heater near it? ill do a coat or two of clear on the heat shield..uhhm..prob start tearing more of the 400 down and taking parts off for paint..prob doing some sanding on those items...prob try flipping the rims and see if it makes it any wider, have to measure the bars for a new bar pad..thats about it for tommorow.

ill keep you guys updated.

heres my heat shield i prepped and painted myself.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I just picked up an 02 LT-F250F the other day and have been in the process of tearing it down to fix some stuff- one of which was the cylinder base gasket leaking like a sieve. Well, I know why that is now, and I also discovered that someone had been in there before. I didn't take pictures, but it looks like it was probably run low on oil at some point, the cam journals and the "bearings" (for lack of a better term) in the head and the valve cover are totally wiped out, very deep grooves.  From what I know it's very difficult to repair aluminum in this way, so I'm trying to figure out where to go next.

      1. Have someone grind down the head and valve cover and fit actual bearings in since the aluminum is screwed, and have the cam ground down to match.  I have no idea what this would cost.
      2. Buy a replacement head+cam+valve cover.

#1 I was hoping someone might have some advice on, but #2 seems like it'll (probably) be the more cost effective option.  However I'm running into some difficulty, it seems like the 2001 and 2002 models specifically use a different head part number,  11100-19B10, instead of  11100-19B01 like for all earlier models.  What exactly is the difference between them? There are obviously far more of the earlier heads because it ran for over 10 years.  Are they actually interchangeable? I've also noticed there are heads from the LT250EF that has 4 valve heads but also otherwise look identical.  Would those work as well possibly?  I'd like to not have to drop $500 on machine work or new heads on a $1300 quad that I'm already putting a bunch of new parts on.  Oh, and it has a new piston and the cylinder itself looks pretty good too, as I said someone was in here before me.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics of the carnage tomorrow.
