2005 Yamaha YFZ 450 need more power

i have a 2005 yfz 450. yosh exhuast, k and n filter, moose jet kit. what is the next thing i should do to get more power?

Welcome to the site. have you considered aftermarket CDI? Are you looking to tearing into the motor? You can always change cams with a higher compression piston. How fat is your wallet?

thanks. what is a CDI? my wallet's good enough to do whatever but i want to start with the cheapest and easiest things first. i'm learning to do most of the work my self.

The CDI box is what controls your ignition. A good aftermarket box will increase you ignition curve for better throttle response and they usually increase the rev limiter. Still within safe running limits and will add a few mph.

Depends on what kind of power you want. Do the 'cam mod' it's free. Pop the air box lid off if you already haven't. Those and the pipe and filter you put on will give you decent power.

There are tons of other things depending on what you want, like different sprockets, FCI air intake, big bores, etc.

What is the Cam Mod?

Rotate the exhaust cam 1 tooth clockwise. Basically turns the motor in to the dirt bike engine. I should have checked my valves when I had it all apart, so it's a perfect time to check them when this mod is done.

It already is basically the dirt bike motor. So what exactly does it do?

Turns it in to the yz450f cam timing giving it more power in the mid & upper range. Just gives the motor a little more pop.

Some poeple think the motor doesn't run as hot after doing it either, but I'm not sure if there is any truth to that or not.

I've ran the cam mod since late 2005 and I love it. It does more than the aftermarket Hot Cams they sell for our bikes. Only other way to get power from the cams it to send yours out to WEB Cams

Oh and another cheap and easy power adder is to get a nice upgraded accelerator pump cover. This really helps with the lower end after doing the Cam mod.

Take the motor out of one of these and put it in your YFZ, 82hp stock.

That is crazy. The CR500 puts out 62 Mr. Eds on a stock motor.

thanks for the advice guys. have do the cam mod and waiting for 15 tooth front sprocket to come in. will soon be getting ported and polished head with cp piston and fuel customs intake. i'll let ya'll know how it goes. thanks again
