Hi there, I just bought a 1989 yamaha breeze 125 for my daughter, and I seem to be blowing plugs after every ride....wondering if anyone knows the correct spark plug i should be using or if anyone has had the same problem?? I dont have the manual, but wondering if the guy i bought it from was using the wrong plug...once i put in a new plug it runs fine for that time then next day need to change the plug again.......thanks carrie

Caught you again Bot, you double poster you.

Carrie, your Breeze could be fouling plugs for many reasons. Fist thing, obviously, make sure you are using the right plug. If the plug is right, tell us what your bad plugs look like, take a good picture if possible that will help alot.

Hey there, ok I took some pics of the plug, but I cant seem to upload them...I think my file size is to big...and i have no idea how to decrease the size...if you would like I could email them to you if that helps....but I will describe what it looks like.... When I remove the plug it is very black, not overly wet, but appears to be full of carbon! The plug Im using is an NGK CR7HSA. Thanks.

Sounds to me like she's running too rich. You might have a fuel mixture screw on the carb that you can adjust. I doubt it was jetted.... Is it all original? Are you getting smoke out of the tailpipe when you are running? If so, is it black?

I agree, that you are probably running rich, or you are getting some oil in the combustion area. Follow ATV mechcanics' suggestion on the fuel screw, it is probably on the left side of the carb or on the bottom, just to the front of the float bowl. Is your air filter clean? A compression test can tell you alot as well. You should be able to clean those plugs with some fine sandpaper and re-use them. Like Stoopidbot said, an image hosting site makes posting pics easy, I use photobucket myself.

Hey there, thanks for the info....yes it is all original! No have not noticed any smoke from the tailpipe...my daughter has only driven it a few times.....will check the fuel mixture screw and get back to you.....THanks.

Good luck, remember to check that air filter, a dirty filter could very well be your problem. I would do that before messing with the carb adjustments. I should have been more clear about that when I posted earlier, sorry.

Carrie, how did you make out with this? Any update?

      1989 Moto 4 YFM350ERW intermittent spark.
Quad has set for about 7 years and was running when parked.  When I replaced the battery and attempted to start it had no spark.

What I have done.  Followed troubleshooting in the manual.
      1.       Coil failed the resistance check so I replaced it.  Still no spark.
      2.       I performed resistance checks on the stator and they all pass.
      3.       Found a bad rear brake stop switch and unplugged it and connected the wires in order to disable.  Now I have intermittent spark.  I believe that the issue is with either the stator or CDI and not sure which.
1989 seems to be a transition year for electrical.  I can get new aftermarket CDI units for 87-88 and 90-94.  I cannot get ones for a 89.  I can get new stators for 87-89 and 90-95.  Looking at the schematics the wiring on my moto is closer to the 90 ones on the ATV side of the CDI and closer to the 87-88 on the stator side of the CDI.  Looking at part supply sources the stator housing is the same part # for all the years and looking at some of the stators on Amazon that have the dimensions on them both of the stators are the same size.
What I am thinking of doing is to replace the stator and CDI with a 90-95 one as these parts are all readily available.   Does anyone know if this has been tried before and if there are any issues with doing this.
As a side note I also have a 1993 Moto 4 YFM350ER that has been sitting longer but it is located about 400 miles from me at this time.  By doing this change in addition to being able to get parts I will also have 2 ATV’s that are the same electrically.

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.

Troubleshooting a no spark issue, was running OK, maybe a little rich, turned it off, now no spark. I've checked/ohmed out the main key switch, the start/stop switch, neutral switch, brake switch - all good. It will crank the starter, but no spark with the starter or when I try the pull start. I've checked all fuses and diodes. Swapped battery. New plug. New coil. Swapped in a used CDI - no help. Traced, removed, cleaned, reattached all grounds. Removed things like my winch from the circuits to be sure a bad relay or something was dragging it down. When testing voltages, the orange wire going from the CDI to the ignition coil shows no/very low voltage-shouldn't it have 12V on it? Sometimes I get a very weak, intermittent glow on my spark tester, but not enough to fire the plug. I've checked continuity on just about all wires in the harness. Checked/cleaned/lubed w dielectric grease- all connections, redid a few that looked old/dirty. I've checked the stator resistances, all good, but have a stator and rectifier ordered anyway, will arrive Sunday. I verified that the rectifier has a voltage output back to charge the battery while cranking - 10.5-11V, low, but expected while starter is engaged. What else can I check as part of troubleshooting? I have a Haines service manual, but the 1999 350 4x4 seems to be an odd model, there isn't an exact electrical diagram for it, but found one for another year that has all the same number of wires and same color wires, so I've referenced that. Any hints, tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

i just picked this up. was told ran fine but overheating issues led to replacing head gasket and head. has not ran since. he is not a mechanic but helped someone else who he could not get back to finish job, got aggravated and put up for sale. i was thinking timing issues. i have 110-120psi on all 3 cylinders so i think valves are correct. dont know about distributor yet. however i have no spark. i have no power going to ignition coil. tried to follow white wire but gets lost in wire harness. does anyone have a wiring diagram? can anyone tell me what conditions have to be met before starting. motor turns over so i would think all safeties are met but you never know.
