1987 500R..........the real truth

yes, Honda was on the verge of producting a 1987 500R ATC before the cessation on 3 wheeler preduction became apparent

Honda had produced a prototype.........with Marty Hart as the test rider, he was our link to this secret weapon Honda had on the table and the info he disclosed was interesting, and makes perfect sense, but the Trikers of today refuse to let it absorb into their thick craniums

here is the MAJOR PROBLEM

many Trikers go to great lengths to cram a 500cc engine in a 85/86 250R and the run around the planet claiming that it is exactly like the 500R that honda would've produced....

they are sorry misguided foos

Marty Hart declared that the Honda 500R ATC for 1987 was nothing like the 250R, everything was different, the gas tank was farther up, bigger frame, etc etc

the loser peeps who keep claiming that their 500 is the same as Honda's 1987 500R ATC is akin to a flunkie who crams a XL350 motor in a 1984 200x chassis and calls it exactly like a 1985 350X

follow me?

spred the word,

The Minister of Mint

      Hi guys
My 87 Bear 350 won't start and could use a hand.
Turn key on and Oil light turns on and then slowly fades out. (I think this is key to this) No start, not even a tick.
      battery and connections good
A Solenoid post jump turns it over
Neutral Safety Switch wire attached and seems good
It has not had a wire/switch on Rear Brake Pedal ever since I had it.
Any thoughts on some other things to troubleshoot this??

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

Hello everyone I have done a ton of research on doing this conversion because I hate getting stuck in the stupidest places and not being able to back out. I will be documenting my conversion here and on a couple other forums and probably post a couple videos on YouTube. So what I’ve come up with is all you need is a front axles, front propeller shaft, the final shaft inside the engine and the 4x4 front engine cover . I will list all the part numbers for everything that you need and prices from about six months ago (sorry) , you DONT need to switch out hubs, knuckles, or anything like that, and if you want differential lock lock like the foreman and Rubicon you can get a foreman Rubicon front differential and propeller shaft with the diff-lock and get a knight sure four manual actuator for it and voilà you have four-wheel-drive rancher. Input from you guys is greatly appreciated thank you for your time!
Note: I would definitely get the aftermarket HD axles because they are definitely stronger and are around the same price as oem

I've been using Valvolene 10w 40 ATV oil but, it's like $8.00 a quart. Is that about the going rate? Or is there cheaper alternatives that would be suitable? Thanks
