1987 500R..........the real truth

Recommended Posts

yes, Honda was on the verge of producting a 1987 500R ATC before the cessation on 3 wheeler preduction became apparent

Honda had produced a prototype.........with Marty Hart as the test rider, he was our link to this secret weapon Honda had on the table and the info he disclosed was interesting, and makes perfect sense, but the Trikers of today refuse to let it absorb into their thick craniums

here is the MAJOR PROBLEM

many Trikers go to great lengths to cram a 500cc engine in a 85/86 250R and the run around the planet claiming that it is exactly like the 500R that honda would've produced....

they are sorry misguided foos

Marty Hart declared that the Honda 500R ATC for 1987 was nothing like the 250R, everything was different, the gas tank was farther up, bigger frame, etc etc

the loser peeps who keep claiming that their 500 is the same as Honda's 1987 500R ATC is akin to a flunkie who crams a XL350 motor in a 1984 200x chassis and calls it exactly like a 1985 350X

follow me?

spred the word,

The Minister of Mint

It's refreshing to hear someone not afraid to speak the truth. Although your timeline is slightly off. Honda was actually set to release the ATC500R as early as 1985.

This should be posted on those 3wheeler sites that think otherwise.

Exploiting a loop hole in the law, turn 4 wheeler into rev trike
for a long while I have been trying to get a real 4 wheeler street legal.
the problem is with the state laws, if it has 4 wheels, its a car and has mega more rules.
If it only has 3 wheels, its a trike and can be made from cobbled junk parts held together with duct tape and they will plate it
I wonder if anyone would have insight on changing a 4 wheeler over to a single rear wheel?
[ I can't afford some $40-60,000 canam or super bike modded into a car, rev trike kit ]
I want something I can truly ride year round on and off road. Ive rode enough old Honda 3 wheelers that I know I do not want a traditional motorcycle trike. So the single wheel has to go out back.

I just got my hands on this 87" Polaris Cyclone last week. It´s was in good running condition, I painted it and replaced steering bushings etc..
But the problem is that the Carburetor floods. Its seams it floods just as soon as you stream the gas down from the tank and I usually have to keep the throttle wide open for it to start.
I have taken the carb apart but I see nothing wrong... Could you guys give me a hint on what to look for and adjust?

EDIT: Never mind, found that our local Suzuki dealer lists them for under $4 each. I did not realize they would carry parts for ATVs that old. I cant figure out how to delete the thread, so I apologize!
      Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting - hopefully I am in the right place...but please be kind if not! I am not ashamed to admit that I am a crazy beginner when it comes to ATV repair (okay, auto repair in general), but I am trying to restore this ATV piece-by-piece. I ordered front and rear brake shoes yesterday, then realized the set I ordered does not come with those stupid little springs. I can only find used springs on Ebay and can not find anyone selling new ones anywhere except with the shoes (and were crazy expensive compared to what I paid...I guess for good reason).
Anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on a new set of these springs?
      Thanks so much!!
      Susan
