I have a 2009 Kawasaki brute force 650i that I bought from a salvage dealer. When it was bought it had 98 miles on it. Everything that was broke was fixed including a new crank and piston rings (the motor was apart). However one problem remains it will shift in all gears but will not engage in all gears. The shift linkage can be adjusted so that it shift to all gears but low does not engage or it can be adjusted so that it shifts to all gears but reverse is not engaged. I just can't get both low and reverse to engage with any adjustment. Also the only indicator light that ever comes on is the neutral. I have been told that the shaft might be bent or the bracket on the end. They both look good to me. Any suggestions.

Sorry for the late response, I did not see this post until now, it must have been moved in from somewhere else.

If a bracket was bent, or something was reassembled incorrectly, that could cause the problems you are having. I would look to see if there are any parts in the linkage that could possibly be put on differently, possibly a bracket that needs to be turned around. Maybe there is a bracket that could be bent a little and you can't tell because you have only seen it the way it is now. You might try bending something to help gain some more adjustment.

I will be adding the year make and model to this thread title.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

I recently bought a 87 TRX 250 not running of course, the owner had a brand new Key Switch on it.
I think it is the wrong one or wrong wire colors as the colors dont match up with wiring diagram i downloaded for it.
anyone have a pic of their ign switch wires where they connect with the wire colors for that model? I ended up leaving the black/w stripe and
green wire disconnected in order to hot wire it for other testing but would like to know as the colors dont match diagram.
