hard riding Can-am owners...

Recommended Posts

Hi guy's I have a question for ya. I'll hopefully be getting a new quad soon and I've settled on getting a Can-Am more than likely a Renegade though I'll check out the comfort/performance of the Outlander as well.

What I'm wondering is for those that ride theirs hard, how is the reliability and what if any parts have you found wears out quickly. How good are the drive belts, are they strong or to they tend to burn up/stretch?

I'm planning on getting a snorkel system installed; where I live is on the side of a mountain so I'll be doing trails and hill climbs, creek runs and I just built a mud pit, on the trail we have a couple mini jumps on the 400TRX it gets about 3 ft off the ground and on the 300 Lakota it'll get maybe a foot, so I imagine the renegade will get somewhere in between the 2. Most of the hard riding I'll be doing is in the mud and creek.

What's your thoughts on the parts/reliability?

Thanks

I don't know much about the reliability of the Can-ams or which parts are most likely to be trouble. What I do know is that the Renegade sounds much better suited to what kind of riding you are talking about. It is a sport oriented 4wd, where as the Outlander is designed a bit more like a utility quad. The Renegade is made to be ridden hard, and I think they are really cool machines, if I were ever to buy a 4wd quad, it would be a Renegade 800.

If it wasn't for the jumping, I would say the Outlander, but in this case, the Renegade might suit you better. I prefer the Outlander, but I am a utility guy. I believe the Renegade has 4WD which will be good for getting out of the mud. If it did not, I would not get it.

I'm more for comfort these days, and I think the Outlander would be more comfortable.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Bucking started about a month ago and works ok after 1/2 hour warmup.  Today while working on it i discovered that if i put the ignition switch in LIGHT position it runs fine right from the start.
I'm stumped!  Any idea why this could be?

Hello i have a 2005 Bombardier Outlander max xt 400, i recently split the case to fix a oil leak. while in there i took out the oil pump and i cant find the torque specs for the oil pump to go back in, i tend to over tighten everything so im trying to go be the torque specs so i dont break anything.

      Thank you in advance
